Stayed here in mid March 2012. After ringing around this appeared to be the only campsite in Borrowdale open at this time of year. Chatting to the owner (a very nice chap) he said that they try and stay open all year which is fantastic. The grass was in good conditions, and the ground took pegs easily which makes a nice change from many campsites. The facilities are basic, toilets, sinks for washing up (now in a covered area with lighting). Showers were 50p, apparently not the best in the world but do the job.
The best thing though is the locations. Right at the end of Borrowdale it is perfect for walking or climbing in the area. It was really quiet at night, the road going past only goes to Wrynose pass so it gets very little traffic. There were only 4 other tents the weekend we stayed which was very civilised. The sound of owls to go to sleep to and the local woodpecker to wake up to. Its basically the way camping should be. The price was very reasonable and as it wasn't busy the owner let us pay in advance so he didn't have to wake us in the morning if we wanted to sleep in.
Probably not the location for a romantic get-away or a family holiday, but for people who like nature and the outdoors its a great base if you're not wild camping up high.
