having just returned from atwo night stay at the skiddaw hotel i feel i must warn other people who intend to stay there.dont go on aweekend.friday morning4.30am we were woken out of sleep by clattering of metal poles out side of the hotel on the square on investigating wat the noise was we found it to be the outdoor market been assembled.this noise went on untill 9.00am.we didnt have to set the alarm for breakfast.metionig this at reception we were told that the market stalls were not supposed to be starting been errected till 6.30am which i thought was still a bit early.saturday night after retiering to our room the noise kicked off again but thi time from the pubs closing and people making their way to the night club sittuated at the side rear of the hotel.fom that time untill well after 3.30 am the noise was like a foot ball match coming out at full time shouting singing and swearing taxis coming and going and sounding there horns which if i am right should not be sounded after 11.00pm.we had no sleep watsoever in the two night stay.on the saturday afternoon we decided to try and have acouple of hours sleep before our evening meal.wat a pity the stalls were been dismanteled and the noise was twice as bad as the night before.and if i could of got my hands on the squalking parrot it would have been on the evening menu at the hotel. i must say that all the staff were very helpfull and could not fault them.the food was excellent.the rooms were very comfortable.yes i would return to thi hotel if they moved the market and nightclub to the middle of derwentwater.

Good location but you pay for it at about 3am when the club next door kicks every one out,the taxi rank is out side your window.
Other members of our party were ok in the rooms at the back of the hotel. Also on Saturday morning from 6am ish the market stalls are erected outside your window - as noisy as the night club(you soon realise why your room is supplied with earplugs)
The hotel itself is clean and tidy and food was good

This is the only hotel I have stayed in with ear plugs with the shower gel, the second night (Saturday) I found out why. There's a night club at the back and a function room below the room, I must be vey wicked as I got no peace that night, next hotel I check in with complimentary ear plugs I'm leaving straight away

A two day break in a Summit room seemed relaxing and ideal. The hotel was old fashioned but clean. The room was acceptable apart from the fans just outside the window which rumbled and clanked all night keeping us awake. A complaint to reception the next morning resulted in an apology and an explanation that the fans, for the kitchen refrigerator, should have been switched off when the chefs finished work for the night. We were assured it would not happen again. Before going to bed on night two we reminded reception and the hotel manager and were assured it would not happen again! Guess what? Another sleepless night listening to fans! In the morning the receptionist was again apologetic but the manager was unavailable. I asked that he rang me when he was available. That night another receptionist rang me at home, apologised and said that on behalf of the manager she could offer me a nights accomodation. What ever happened to customer contact by management. Definitely not staying there again!!

We had our wedding in the skiddaw hotel in october . some of our close friends and family joined us for the weekend.I could not fault it from beggining to end what a fabulous time. The hotel manager Kevin was friendly proffessional and well orgainised he never stopped the whole time we were there and could not have been anymore helpfull,he was fantastic ,along with the rest of his staff. The food and accomodation were excellant .The only one small fault was my elderly aunt and uncles room was to near the nightclub next door they found it a little bit to noisey ,but hay you carnt please everyone.I would recommend it to anyone.thankyou to everyone .

Spent the Christmas break at the Skiddaw. Whilst the food was good and the hotel to a good standard the noise was unbearable. We had been upgraded to a front room but wish we hadn't. It looked over the square and was unbelievably noisy. There is a nightclub attached to the hotel which doesn't shut until 3 and then people start to wait in the square for taxis. As they are by then drunk they spent their waiting time shouting and swearing.

On the Saturday there is a market and from very early on they start erecting the stands. We wondered why ear plugs were left at the side of our bedside table the evening before!!!!

On leaving and being asked if we had had an enjoyable stay I mentioned the noise and was told it was nothing to do with them and they couldn't do anything about it. As they actually own the nightclub I feel this is somewhat passing the buck.

Wouldn't return until they have triple glazing.

Popped into town for a weekend night and some locals recommended we stay here. Glad we did!

Friendly staff, great breakfast included, and a great location!

Some other lake distict hotels were so shabby and run down. Not this one though. We were given our choice of rooms and we picked the most modern. It was a nice treat right in the heart of town!
