We stayed here for three nights recently wanting a base to explore the Lakes and surrounding district. We had room eleven which was very comfortable indeed....a huge bed which I loved(a bit too soft for my husband)but we slept really well.A good bathroom with shower,tea/coffee making etc and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff.Breakfast was something else!Fresh fruit salad, yoghurts etc and although I didn't have the Cumbrian cooked breakfast my husband did and really enjoyed the fresh local produce.I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon one morning which was excellent and there was also eggs benedict on the menu which is quite unusual.A real feast to set you up for the day ahead!!
We would highly recommend The Grange to anyone wanting a real up-market B&B .....although don't attempt the hill in the evening when going into the town for dinner unless you don't mind a climb on the way back! There are pleny of restaurants in the town....we would recommend the Italian in Station Street.....gorgeous food and good value for money.
If ever we go back that way we will certainly try The grange for a room before anywhere else.

The Grange is superb. I'm loathed to give a review as I don't want to share it.
The rooms are beautifully appointed, many with superb views of the fells. Breakfast is amazing and has everything you need to set you up for a day in the fresh air. When you come back from a walk in the fells, you can have tea served on the terrace, and later you can relax in the lounge, maybe with a bottle of wine. The service is excellent and the atmosphere very friendly. Sally, Mark and the team can't do enough for you. Thanks guys! (And looking forward to 2012!)

Room Tip: Make sure you know whether your room has a bath or shower, if you have a preference.

Hello and thank you for this review, it is lovely that we get so many return guests and it is so nice of you to take the time to post an unsolicited review. We will see you again next year!
Just a little note about breakfast: We really do believe that our guests deserve the best breakfast we can possibly offer, so we don't take any shortcuts with cheaper products. The 'girls' bake most afternoons so you'll normally have home-made flap-jack, banana loaf or bakewell tart as an option (we dont mind if you want to save a piece for your walk). We buy very fresh and local, where possible and of course where its not local, it's Fairtrade.

Great views. Great breakfast. Room 5 has views from 2 windows. Room 5 is listed with a king-sized bed, but it's a double. Otherwise, room is a good size. You can walk to downtown, but it's a steep climb on the way back. Driving and parking in-town is easy.

Room Tip: Room 5 had great views from 2 windows (and fresh air at night). Only a double bed (not a king as lis...

Hello and thank you for the comments, just would like to advise everyone that in Room 5, the bed is a 5' bed. In the UK, we used to call these 'Queen size' but these days, the industry standard term (and UK linen) is King Size - hence the confusion over the bed description. We do also have a couple of rooms with 'Superkings - these are the size of 2 x single beds so the total bedwidth is 6'6".
Most people enjoy the return walk to town, but if you want to walk in to town and taxi back, there are plenty of cabs available and its just £3.00 each way (it's just a touch over half a mile)

Interestingly, I have just responded to a different review about the bed size - we used to always describe the beds as 'Queen Size' but our bed supplier and all the linen suppliers call them King Size so I changed the descriptions last year. I am wondering if it is guests from the USA who are expecting a larger bed?
On our website, the beds are described as 5' so, please rest assured, we are certainly not trying to mislead anyone! We cant change the bed for the foreseeable future as it is very new (and very comfortable) so will endeavor to explain the size during the booking process.

Thank you for your feedback.

We stayed here for the second time in a year. We stayed in October 2010 and booked again when we knew we were returning this year. We booked three rooms this time and weren't disappointed.

My husband and I had the best room in the house I think - Room 5. It is lovely with beautiful views. We had been very spoilt because we had stayed in a lovely king bed in the Cotswolds the night before, and I realised that the bed in this room is probably a queen and it did seem quite small. A shame really because the room could definitely accommodate a king.

My son's room (Room 4) was also lovely but alot smaller, but had a lovely window with a view of Catbell. My mother in law chose room 2 because it has a bathtub. This is the room my son stayed in last time, and is probably the least attractive room, but still very nice. Just a bit small and doesn't have the view, but perfect for one person.

The breakfast was five star. Everything was perfectly cooked and served on Wedgwood china. Very nice.

Thank you again Grange Keswick for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Book Room 5
