Just had a great stay over the weekend at Lane Head Farm. We had a very warm welcome from Jo and Mark and for the two days we stayed there they were extremely helpful, recommending us places to go, nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast is amazing!!! My husband and I had room 3 (four poster) and our friend had room 7 and both rooms are very spacious, very clean and warm, the bed was very comfortable. We had two great evenings in a very comfortable lounge.
Superb 300 years old character house, in a great location, quiet with stunning views and only 10 min drive from Keswick; hosts that go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. I can't fault Lane Head Farm. Will definitely recommend it and book again when back to the Lake District.

Just had a lovely weekend staying at Lane Head Farm with a group of friends. Josette and Mark were very hospitable hosts and made us feel very welcome. Location is fantastic for walking in the northern Lake District and our hosts had loads of really helpful advice on routes, places to park and other local knowledge. And the breakfast was really good made with fresh local ingredients. Thoroughly recommend this as a great place to stay.

We had a great stay over the Easter weekend. Jo and mark were extremely friendly and gave us great recommendations for place to eat and good walks. A great base to explore - very tasty breakfasts fuelled us for some good walks, with lovely rooms to come back to.

I've lost count of the number of times we've stayed with Josette and Mark at Lane Head Farm, but every stay is as memorable as the last. My wife and I always get a fantastic welcome, but one member of the family gets a warmer welcome than both of us and that's Daniel, our English Springer Spaniel! If you have a dog and always like to take them away with you on holiday I would wholeheartedly recommend Lane Head Farm Country Guest House.

The views from the rooms are all of equal beauty and are always a great place to relax in if you've had a hard day's walking around the beautiful Northern Lakes. Whether you're a novice or an experienced walker Mark and Jo are always willing to guide you to somewhere that's sure to give you a lifetime of memories and will make you want to return to the Lake District time and time again.

One thing guaranteed to get you up and walking first thing in the morning is the extremely tasty breakfast that Mark prepares freshly every morning. My wife is vegetarian and is always pleasantly pleased by the options available to her.

All in all whether you are looking for a relaxing break or a base from which to walk around the stunning countryside Lane Head Farm Country B&B is always our first port of call and we would recommend it to any and everyone.

The initial warm welcome soon wore off as time progressed through our stay. We were paying a bit more to stay here than at a hotel, however, on our arrival it was implied that the guest house was not, and was not trying to be, an established, professional business.

We were shown to our room which seemed cosy on first glance, however, the closer you looked the more you realised that the finishes to the room and it's décor were not first class. There was also no hot water (at best, it was tepid) at night to wash your face in the sink. We went away for a relaxing weekend, however, we both came back more tired than when we arrived. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and the mini-fridge, whilst it is a good idea, was far too noisy to be left on. The bedroom itself did not seem as if it had been given any attention throughout our stay. For example, dirty glasses weren't washed or even taken away and the bed wasn't made up pristinely.

Breakfast was not an enjoyable experience, mainly due to the fact that we felt that we were treated differently from other guests leaving us feeling awkward. I do not know if this was down to us being slightly younger than other couples or because of where we are from. This was further backed-up by a reference made at check-out whilst payment was being made. We paid in full by cash and, instead of being trusting as any other B&B owner has been, the money had to be counted out and checked in front of us.

Overall we believed we were paying more for something a little different, out of town, which hence provided country views. As well as this, with paying that bit more we expected a more personal service and attention to detail. In reality we paid for something that wasn't as professional as your average hotel, provided less amenities and you were close to a busy main road.

I picked this b & b because it said dog friendly, not always a guarantee that this will be the case but this did not disappoint on any level. Mark & Jo were so welcoming, tea on arrival, and then Merlin had his own towel, tin of treats and information pack about restaurants and places of interest we could take him. So thoughtful. The guest house is cosy, old fashioned, comfortable. Clean laundered sheets and towels. Fabulous breakfast, kippers are a must! Mark & Jo were full of helpful advice about where to go, we really didn't want for anything. We stayed for 3 nights and wished it could have been longer. If we get chance to go back I would book the downstairs dog friendly bedroom if I could as we were about as far from the front door as possible making it a bit awkward with an unsettled dog wanting to go outside at 5am! A minor inconvenience though as he was allowed in the dining room which made all the difference. Thank-you Jo & Mark.

Room Tip: The best dog friendly room is on the ground floor, Room 2 I think. We were in Room 7 which was a lon...

Had a great 2-night stay. The rooms were very comfortable, countryside location. The hosts, Mark and Jo, are very attentive, made us tea on arrival and advised on great places to eat, places to visit, local activities and also provided a weather forecast print-out in the morning. The breakfast was superb, ingredients locally sourced. The Guest House is easy to find and only 10 minutes' drive from Keswick. One of our rooms had views across Saddleback mountain with cows and alpacas in the fields nearby.
