“Just the job”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

I have just realised that after four years of staying here. I have not written a review!
This is a great place to stay as a base for walking in North of the Lakes, though of course everywhere is no more than an hour away.
The welcome is friendly. the couple that own the Guest House try really hard to accommodate requests - including pack lunch with 10 minutes notice - just as the kids are going to school. (Sorry)
Beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. Breakfast is high quality and hearty. There is a pool though I have never been brave enough (it is heated). There are B&B type rooms, self catering accommodation and a VW campervan rental if you want to really try something different.
The accommodation is 5 minutes from a great pub which server good food, but does get busy so book ahead.
The breakfast room has views of Skiddaw and is a lively place to start the day.
your hosts have a great knowledge of the Lakes and will be able to give you good ideas about walks.
Another plus is it is quite tricky to get a phone signal on some networks. - shame :-)
See you all soon :-)

In the last 6 months 4 generations of our family have stayed here. One apartment has a level entrance from the car park so was ideal for our older members. The apartments are both warm, comfortable and well equipped. My only quibble would be a couple more serving size dishes in the kitchen. Andrew and Diane are helpful and informative. We will be back!

Hidden away from the central town of Keswick yet SO close. We had the apartment which housed 5 of us and was absolutely perfect. Consisted of a living room, large kitchen and two en-suite rooms. One room had a double bed and the other had one double and one single. The view from the double bed room was beautiful as the window was filled with the mountainous landscape. The apartment is on higher ground as compared to the B&B so the elevation gave us more view to look upon. The morning view was such a delight. The rooms are super clean, towels were provided and the L-shaped sofa in the living room is SUPER comfy. The living room faces the swimming pool and kids playground area. Pool wasn't open but only because the season wasn't right. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a meal. The apartment warmed up everyone really well even though it was freezing outside!! Location wised, you could not complain. A 10-15 min walk into town via a park route, a pub round the corner with a 2 min walk? Free parking space with our apartment so driving into the center of town was just 5 mins. Booths is such a great supermarket and is better than Waitrose! Was advised by our super friendly B&B owner, Diane. She greeted us upon arrival and was always ready to help us throughout our stay. Would like to thank you Diane and Skiddaw Grove for the wonderful weekend stay! Was definitely the perfect stay for our get-away weekend! All thumbs up =)

This is a first class B&B. Seven hikers stayed for 2 nights and found the hotel to be warm, very clean and within walking distance of Keswick.
The rooms were very well appointed and were all en-suite and very comfortable.
The owners, Diane and Andrew, were extremely pleasant and helpful throughout the stay.
The breakfasts were wonderful with a choice of cooked full English, a vegetarian version and various cereals, fruits, fruit juices, toast and croisants.
I enjoyed my stay so much that I am returning in 2 weeks with my daughter for another 2 night stay.

This is an exemplary B & B tucked away just off the A66 at Keswick, a very relaxing place to stay, wether you are visiting the theatre at Keswick, or walking the fells. Diane and Andrew are very welcoming, thoughtful hosts, who go out of their way to be helpful. The rooms are clean and bright with lovely soft white towels, and have a very useful information book. The beds have clean fresh linen and are very comfortable, important after a long drive, or a day hiking the fells.
The breakfast menu is excellent and pre ordered the night before, means all freshly cooked and well presented, lots of fresh coffee an excellent start to the day. Packed lunches on request and a filled flask, all important extra touches that make the Skiddaw Grove an excellent place to stay. As a return guest I am confident to recommend it as one of the best, if not the best place to stay while on a trip to Keswick, it is homely yet discreet, and the hosts have a wide range of local
knowledge to help guests.
I am sure I will return many times to Skiddaw Grove, and, oh yes Did I mention the wonderful views of Skiddaw? Magic.

Stayed one night as we were visiting family in Keswick. Hadn t booked but managed to get the last room , a small double ,overlooking the patio/garden at the rear of the premises. Room was extremely clean ,well furnished although on the small size. Bathroom included a bath as well as a shower,an added bonus after a day s walk. Breakfast was very good and the welcome and assistance from the owners was first class.
Would certainly stay again but would ensure we pre booked and endeavour to get a front facing room.

Room Tip: Try to get a front facing room with those magnificent views

Two girlfriends and i were touring the Lake District and Scotland and we were very fortunate to have found Skiddaw Grove on the net. Diane & Andrew are the perfect hosts and fed us enormous, delicious English breakfasts that were a joy to tuck into. The heated pool and back terrace garden were very welcoming, but unfortunately none of us had thought to pack a swim suit ! The front looked on to misty green soul stirring hills. Our rooms though small, were cosy, charming and clean and included all the amenities we needed. Except one...please change your plumbing on the sink, so that hot and cold water can be mixed to pour from one central tap.

This was a very minor drawback. Keswick is centrally located yet far from the madding crowd of the larger lake towns. There are beautiful places to visit nearby like Ashness bridge, Surprise, & Lodore falls. All just as the poets described. If you're the energetic sort, hike on yonder hills. Even morning strolls are a delight. A cruise around the tranquil Lake Derwentwater is a must. Try and pre- book tickets for a play at the theatre on the lake. For the shopaholics (which woman isn't one?) there are various outlets at Keswick to indulge yourselves in. We had some great meals too at restaurants and inns recommended by our hosts. All in all, the perfect getaway!

Room Tip: Try and get one of the front rooms with a view. Or the one on the 1st floor with a balcony. Great vi...
