“Good for mountain bikers!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

Just back from two nights at Cherry Bank as a base for mountain biking in the area. We were a group of 3 so shared the 2 rooms out between us. It was nice to have the place to ourselves. The place is a drive back to Keswick for evening meals but if you dont mind this its not a problem, takes 2 mins. Nearest pub/eatery is the Pheasant Inn, which we would highly recommend. We liked it so much we only ate there and had the same stuff two nights running (fish pie!). You probably wouldnt want to walk along the road but there is a great walk or ride round the back into town. We started a ride from behind the guesthouse to avoid the main road.

There is bike storage available and hoses to wash bikes. These are important to us and what we looked for when booking.

Sue's breakfasts are perfect and you can choose what you like. Many B&Bs use cheap ingredients but these are high quality and really nice.

Very comfy beds, we all slept well. Good shower and lovely separate bathroom.

Great weekend. Hope to be back soon!

Stayed for a weekend in June and loved it rooms were lovely and clean, breakfasts were fab. Sue was brilliant and really understanding with it being our puppy Barneys first stay at a b & b. Cant wait to come back in September.

Stayed for one Saturday night as part of two night long weekend in Cumbria. Welcome was excellent with Sue's dog immediately getting to know our two Golden Retrievers. Room had panoramic views toward Basenthwaite was clean and comfortable. Free WiFi was a bonus and breakfast was freshly cooked and full of flavour. As a host, Sue was chatty and welcoming and explained everything on arrival. Would visit again and may well book the adjacent Dancing Gate cottage in the future.

We stopped at cherry bank for 2 nights and can't fault the place. It was clean. Homely and welcoming. Sue was a very friendly and hard working woman. Running the B&B as well as helping out on the farm. The views that we woke up to we're spectacular :-) she welcomed us as well as out puppy. Her breakfasts were the best I've ever had. We are glad we got the chance to meet her as well as her family and her dogs. Especially Lilly who kept poppy entertained. Thank you for a wonderful stay

Me, wor lass & the dog stopped over in the mini ice age for two nights. Great location, room was clean and comfy, and the breakfast was really good. I can't fault this for the price & although we arrived slap bang in the lambing season, added with the coldest March since 1962, the hospitality we were shown was dead friendly....thanks Sue

We booked 3 nights at Cherry Bank .
Probably the worst B&B we ever stayed at.
It is true that it was a little cheapper than at previous places ( £60/night for 2 of us + 1 dog ) but the welcome and hospitality of the hostess was terrible. She is all too keen to tell you that juggling farming with a B&B is complicated. That people assume they can arrive, leave or have breakfast when they want....(How dare they ? When they are on holiday and she has to help with the sheep???)
So we were told off for arriving earlier than planned, bearing in mind we were travelling 5 hours from Hertfordshire, it was difficult to estimate exactely....sorry Sue !
The following morning , as we had not been told when breakfast was being served, we appeared in the dining room at 8:45 to be told the breakfast was 'salvageable'. We didn't really understand until my husband's cooked breakfast was brought while he was having his cereals...' before it was completely cold' he was told. It was tepid and had been kept warm for a while, judging by the fact that the bacon could not be sliced.
I could go on...until the last morning when cooked breakfast ,coffee, toast and the bill ( !!!) were brought all at once and we were told that if we didnt need anything else she had to go and help with the sheep. When we left Cherry Bank, the house was empty , but it's not as if we needed to thank Sue for her hospitality.
I am sure farming is not an easy way of life but she should realise that some people are also going away from the pressure of life and should not feel like they should also apologise for disrupting her.
The B&B is purely an income for her.
On the plus-side the bedroom was clean and the bed comfortable.
