My wife and I stayed at this hotel for our wedding anniversary.
We booked it for ther price which was excellent value and the previous reviews didn't sound too bad.
Our room was light and very large, we stayed in the old station house room 407.
The heating was kept on rather high to keep the damp out and the windows only opened about 3'' but it was no hardship.
The food was good and the breakfast was excellent although the british staff where rather snotty where as the foreign staff where excellent.
All in all the hotel is excellent value for money and is excellently situated so we would deffinately go back.

Stayed in the old station rooms they may have been executive ten years ago but not now. Room was tatty, wallpaper hanging down in several places, trouserpress missing from wall and had to go straight back to reception to complain about tv not working.!!!
The food was ok but nothing special and the price of drinks was a rip-off. all-in-all £300 for two nights DBB for a couple was way overpriced for this hotel!!!

Loved the Hotel, dont believe in ghosts but room 300 was spooky, has anyone else stayed in this room? did you feel the same? The food was great , all most as good as the service, and its in a great location.

Rate for a 2 night stay is £65 per person but just because we wanted the room for one night - we were there for a wedding in the ares, we had to pay £90 each!

I seriously think we were charged too much - ok its a lovely old building, but you feel like you could be in a Miss Marple! The floor boards are creeky and there were cobwebs in our bathroom and the windows didn't look like they had been cleaned for a few years! We were also woken up by the housekeeper on a Sunday morning at 8am - who wanted to clean our room - surely they check with reception as to who has checked out already?

If you can get a deal on this hotel and want the oldey worldy type venue then go for it - but for those that like your mod cons - don't expect too much!

Have just arrived back from a three days stay at this wonderful hotel. The food was exceptional, the staff were very well trained in customer service, everyone was very polite kind and very very helpful, nothing was any trouble. We would certainly go again.

Nice hotel, nice room, nice food, nice staff. It was pretty nice really!

Great views from the rooms at the rear, parking was a bit tight but it was a nice place so I won't go on about it.

Stayed there with work, but would go back with my other half for a weekend away.

The hotel was built to serve the railway, but trains run there no longer! In fact the hotel took over the station building and that has been converted to extra bedrooms. The Queen visited in 1956 and there's a covered walkway that was done in her honour so that she could walk from the station to the hotel without getting wet or cold.
The hotel was even used by Roedean school to evacuate to during the war!!
Anyway, the decoration of the place gave me the impression that it had been done piecemeal, and some things didn't match as a result - but what a nightmare upkeep of such a building must be! Even so, the bedroom was lovely and everything seemed clean and comfortable. We booked for 2 nights Bed, Breakfast and evening meal, and I have to say that the food was absolutely wonderful!
We were going to be too late for dinner the first night so I rang ahead, and they still served us, which was good of them.
