“A great stay”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Having stayed in the Patterdale several times and had a great experience we thought we would try the Keswick. It proved to be excellent with great staff, good room and fantastic food. An all round 5 stars

Room Tip: Go for overlooking the garden

Three night stay in November . Lovely warm room and looked after by friendly and efficient staff , we were never kept waiting for anything . Big thanks to Pete Thompson the Duty Manager , always friendly , welcoming and helpful . Food was very good nice breakfast and excellent dinners , the only problem is it so good we ate far too much

Room Tip: lower floors mean less stairs to climb after large meals

The Hotel is well situated a short walk into Keswick. There is ample parking. Our room was well decorated and comfortable but we had creaking floors, both the one we walked on and the one above. Most of the public areas are fine but there are some areas where re-decoration is overdue.
We enjoyed our evening meal in the Hotel which was well cooked and nicely presented, we did feel that the waiting staff could have smiled a bit more, there wasn't much enthusiasm shown. Overall we would stay here again.

This time we were in one of the rooms in the old station building which was spacious and comfortable. Being on the ground floor, there was not much of a view. All staff encountered were pleasant and helpful - and the hotel was full. Meals were extremely good. The menus tend to be "fancy" but my wife's requests for plain food were catered for well. The hotel is well situated for walking, in fact we left the car on the car park for the whole of our four night stay. Local bus services are good.

Room Tip: There is a surcharge on the old station rooms, but they are possibly worth the extra. A railway ent...

Regularly use the hotel for short stays whilst walking in the Lake district. Situated a short walk from the town, gardens and lake. Plenty of walks close by so you can leave your car in the hotel car park. The hotel is old with character and very charming and welcoming. The staff are friendly and helpful at all times. Definitely opt to eat at the hotel. you will not be disappointed with the high quality food and great service. I have stayed in numerous rooms in the hotel and have never been disappointed but personally prefer the garden rooms which have great views over the hills. I can/t recommend the hotel enough if you want character, comfortable rooms, great food and a nice relaxing stay.

We stayed 4 nights with our walking group. The food was excellent with a wide variety of choices for the evening meal. The breakfast buffet included everything you could wish for. We went in at 8am and it was all freshly cooked and hot.
The location on the edge of town was ideal as we had no parking problems and it was just 5 minutes walk to the centre. We even managed some walks direct from the hotel.
The wi-fi only works well in the small lounge next to reception but at least the seats are comfy there.
Staff were all friendly and efficient.

Stayed for 5 nights with husband and teenage daughter in a triple room, very spacious and warm. An old hotel which must be challenging to maintain and which we found very comfortable, although amazingly a little hot at night even with the windows open. Staff were excellent, nothing too much trouble and we were provided with a packed lunch on a day when we needed to make a very early start before breakfast was served. Food was amazing, so difficult to choose each evening, beautifully presented and plentiful. 5 minutes walk into the centre of Keswick where there was plenty to entertain when we'd had enough of walking in the rain. Will definitely stay again.
