Once again a thoroughly wonderful 2 nights stay & made even better by lovely blue skies and plenty of autumn sunshine - excellent for leaving the car in the car park and walking from the hotel. Excellent food and friendly staff.

Room Tip: rooms with a view over the gardens are quieter

we stayed one night at this lovely atmospheric hotel in a junior suite which overlooked the gardens and mountains, it was beautiful and so relaxing, the food was good although my duck was overcooked thats why im giving it a 4, the bar prices reasonable, staff fantastic nothing was a problem, we are going back next year in the spring but for a couple of nights as one night was'nt enough,, loved it , also the location could'nt have been better, lovely walk into town which was about 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: junior suite was excellent value but only if you join the choice rewards scheme then you get the upg...

Spent two nights at this hotel, wish it had been longer. We found all the staff friendly and
helpful. Room clean and comfortable. corridors could do with a make over. Breakfasts was
buffet style, but everything was hot, and good quality bacon. Dinners first class, compliments
to the chef, best meals ever. Grounds and surrounding area lovely, and only a five minute
walk to the town centre. Could not fault this hotel, we will certainly be back in the not to
distant future.

What a treat to stay in this extraordinary 1869 hotel. The beautiful grounds blend with a city park, making for a nice riverside walk into this lovely town. As of October 2012 there is still no working elevator which is a problem for some, but we didn't mind the exercise. There are plenty of strong young men to carry up your bags. The stairs and hallways have so much "character" that we were concerned about the rooms, but they are modernized and lovely and warm. There are places that need some repair and paint, but the hotel is working on a renovation one floor at a time. We wondered if the creaking floors were bothering the guests under us. Some complained of uncomfortable beds, but our single beds were fine. The food at dinner and breakfast was exceptionally good and the staff was great. The only drawback was that the WiFi was not available in the rooms, but there are plenty of comfortable places to sit in the lobby area or bar with your laptop or iPad. It was fun to stay here in this gloriously beautiful area. I look forward to returning.

As usual at this Hotel the service was superb, food very good and lovely lounge to relax in at the end of the day. Cannot fault it - but the lift was being mended on this trip, hopefully mended next time.

Room Tip: Try and upgrade to a room overlooking the front of the hotel with marvellous views of the Lake Distr...

This hotel is well situated for access to Keswick and all the things associated with the Lakes, but NO Hot water on a Sunday is not on. Most annoyingly the staff knew there was a problem
and no notification was given a simple note under a door would help its not too much to ask for in this day and age. The receptionist when asked gave the standard answer a plumber is on the way not much use when you check out at 11. We have stayed here several times and this was the poorest visit to date. On a positive the breakfast is well worth it with good choice and attentive staff.

Room Tip: Make sure there is hot water

Well situated hotel with easy access to Keswick and adjacent areas. Hotel is currently undergoing decoration and unfortunately we were allocated room on floor where working occurred. Bedrooms are modest by todays standards requiring considerable updating in decor, furnishings and particularly en suite facilities. Unfortunately the lift was not working during our stay. Apart from this an enjoyable break was obtained with an excellent choice of menu served by pleasant staff. The attractions of the Keswick area are such that I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel for another visit.

Room Tip: Front and garden facing rooms would be preferred.
