“You won't leave hungry!”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

This place serves seriously big food. 8/10 lads on a stag do, most of them rugby players, and not one finished the Cow Pie half portion.....or even dared to try a dessert. The pie is the star, venison casserole was good, but not great. Great range of Jennings beers, staff were super-friendly and very efficient and the atmosphere in both the pub and dining room was buzzy and welcoming. Value for money was excellent and I'd definitely return to try the cow pie challenge!

“Great pub food”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Ate here twice during our recent visit to Keswick. Good, hearty pub food. We had the lamb and fish cakes on our first night, followed by the venison burger and mussels the second night. All very tasty. Good selection of ales and a reasonable selection of wine by the glass. Enjoyed sitting in the bar area/snug with an open fire. Friendly, efficient service. The pub had a nice atmosphere with a mix of locals and tourists. Would certainly go back if ever in Keswick again.

“The friendly George”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

Just returned from a three day break at the George, hubby had a couple of holidays to use up,so we took up the offer of 3 nights b+b for the price of 2,we were given room 9,which is a family room, consisting of a double and single bed, room was quite spacious and tastefully furnished, and tea/coffee well stocked, bed very comfortable with crisp cotton sheets, bathroom has shower only.In my opinion the bathroom would benefit from a towel warmer,as there was no other form of heat in the bathroom, while we were there, the country was once again battered with snow and icy winds,it was definately chilly stepping out of shower...Our room was at the top of the building,up a couple of flights of stairs,as there are no ground level guest rooms and no lift,it could be a problem for people with walking difficulties.Breakfast has a good selection of cereals, fruit and yogurt.Main breakfast is cooked to order, the full english is enormous, even down to sauteed potatoes, but you can just choose the bits you want, they also provide kippers and a continental brekkie,I chose the continental one morning for a change,a thick piece of home cooked ham, stilton, brie smoked cheddar, mature cheddar, grapes and strawberries, yum, yum.
Parking is available at the rear of the hotel, but is limited. If there are no spaces left, the hotel has parking permits for the towns public car park, which is only a couple of mins walk away. You pay a twenty pound deposit for permit, which is returned to you on departure. All in all,had a great time at the George, despite the nasty weather, and look forward to returning soon.
