“Fantastic atmosphere - great pub!”
Reviewed November 15, 2010

This place is full of walkers, both local and visitors. Great choice of hearty meals to choose from. The only difficulty is getting a table, but that tells you a story in itself.

Great local ales on offer and plenty of people to share the days experiences with. Good, friendly atmosphere - highly recommended!

“Go for the Goulash”
Reviewed November 10, 2010

Having read the reviews about this pub we had set our hearts on the Goulash. So it was on a cold November's evening we arrived to find the pub pretty full with no spare tables. We had expected this from the comments of previous diners. Reassured by the bar attendant that the turnover of tables is pretty rapid we enjoyed a drink whilst we waited for a table to become free. Luckily one became free after 20 mins though you should be prepared for a wait as they do not take reservations nor is there a waiting list at the bar and this place is extremely popular. The Goulash was amazing and worth the wait...quite spicy with huge chunks of lean beef, vegetables, spuds, dumpling and a large warm baguette on the side...simply delicious. The pub also boasted a down to earth and friendly atmosphere and we would certainly look to return if we holidayed in Keswick again.

“It is, what it is!”
Reviewed November 9, 2010

A great place, not pretending to be anything other than what it is - a great place to unwind, have a pint and a good hearty meal after a day on the hills (or not).

Food is quite good and they keep a very good pint of real ale - yeah, they do lager for you people who dont like real beer ;0)

Dogs are most welcome - you can even buy dog food and treats for your trusty hound.

“Why go anywhere else?”
Reviewed November 5, 2010

This place is by far the best pub in Keswick. Friendly welcoming staff, wonderful beer, superb food and I love the fact they don't serve chips demonstrating the quality of the place. As many other reviewers have stated, the Goulash is fab... Your dog is even welcome and they offer snacks and water for your fell walking pal. Whoever runs this place has got it dead right so please don't change a thing and we look forward to returning in December.

“What a pub should be.......”
Reviewed October 26, 2010

I have been to the pub on several occasions as they have no issues with you having a dog. If you're the sort of person who wants no dogs, cream colour carpets, wine bar style etc then don't try it. This is a typical town centre unpotentuous cosy local pub. It always appears busy and normally has the open fire going which creates a nice atmosphere. The staff are very good and the food is good too. We normally visit at least once during our regular weekly stays in Keswick and will continue to do so.
