Don't expect sophistication...but do expect a great range of beers, a small but excellent range of food and a warm welcome. Almost always crowded and busy...but that's generally a good sign!

We called in for a pint and were lucky enough for a friendly couple to let us share their table as they were probably the last seats in there. They had ordered food (we had already eaten) and when it came it looked delicious. In fact despite being full I had full blown food-envy! This was our favourite pub in Keswick by far. Really small, really friendly, EXCELLENT ale, tantalising smells from the kitchen. We will definitely eat here next time we go to this area of the lakes but will make sure we go early as it is always busy.

While standing at the bar enjoying my second visit to the Dog and Gun.
I find myself thinking what a great place, really should leave a review.
We ate here yesterday and both had the goulash, it was amazing but both regret having the large bowl.
It was fantastic!
Service was with a smile and the Guinness was perfect, dog friendly pub at its best
10/10 to the dog and gun.

We never got to eat here sadly, we were to late at the time we got there but we were there in time for the quiz, the questions were difficult for us as they were aimed at the older crowd that were participating although somehow we came second in the quiz with some luck and chance, the opportunity the to pick our prize out of a bag was funny, and on top of this the beer was good and the people who were serving were helpful when we couldn't hear them because it was so busy. we said we would go back if we about Keswick and wanted a drink and to win the quiz.

My husband and I visited for the goulash, which never disappoints. We both ordered the small portion, which at £6.95 is hard to beat.
The goulash was seriously hot, and care should be taken when first eating (husband burnt his mouth). The bowl was packed with meat and dumpling, and the sauce was a slightly bitter, smokey and ever so slightly spicy mix. The garlic bread it is served with is heavy on the garlic and butter, exactly how I like it.
The small portion would satisfy all but the very largest of appetites, I couldn't finish it, and a good selection on real ales to accompany your food.
