“Lovely hotel, hope to return!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2012

We stayed at Lakeside House during the loveliest weekend of the year so far, arrived 25th March. This was our first stay in Keswick - we usually stay in Ambleside but we were very happy with our choice. Had read all the reviews before we booked and weren't disappointed at all.
Room 3 was lovely, great view, really comfortable bed and everything really clean. Spacious room with good furnishings and nice touches such as the armchairs and binoculars for the view. Breakfast was very good with eggs benedict and smoked salmon available without additional cost. Despite the sunny weather my other half tried the porridge which is recommended!
The staff in the dining room are really lovely, nothing too much trouble without being intrusive.
Hotel in a good spot for the town, just a few minutes walk and lots of good shops, eating places and best of all great beers..... had 2 lovely walks around Derwentwater and Buttermere. Just need to plan another trip soon and cross fingers for more fab weather.

This B&B is right on the edge of the town - literally across the road (under a tunnel) - but it is so quiet (apart from the inconsiderate people you always get who bang doors early in the morning - no fault of the B&B owners just some inconsiderate guests!) and only a short stroll to the lake as well - can't imagine there would be a better location! As soon as we had booked Peter e-mailed the confirmation and offered to book / recommend restaurants for us. Yes, he asked roughly what time we might arrive, but we are aware that this was in order that everything was ready for us and that if we were going to be arriving very late at night, arrangements would be made to facilitate this. We cannot fault the cleanliness of our rooms on arrival. We were able to park outside between 4pm and 10am but there were plenty of spaces nearby for all day parking and the B&B provided car park passes for nearby carparks which was a nice touch. The breakfast was superb - served between 8.15 and 9.15am - thoroughly recommend the scambled eggs with smoked salmon. If we were pushed to find any fault it would be the limited attention to the daily 'room service'. We didn't think anyone had been in on our first day as the glasses containing water were where we left them by the side of the bed (no - we wouldn't leave them like this at home so why did we do so here???), and the bottle of water hadn't been replaced as we had been told it would be. Not an issue because we had been told where the replacement bottles were and were able to get our own. (Although the fridge was empty on our last day). Now these are very minor issues - most places probably wouldn't even provide complimentary water so it really isn't a problem. We would most definately return to this place and thoroughly recommend it!.

Room Tip: Room 2 - huge and with lovely views. Room 1 - can be a twin or double and has a seperate side room...

Thank you for taking time to post a review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We have ironed out the small problem regarding glasses not being changed - a slight communication hiccup with the housekeepers. We hope to welcome you back in the future.
Kind regards, Peter

“Hello?”
“Hello, this is the LakeSide House Hotel. We were just wondering where you were.”
“Where we are?”
“Yes. It’s after 5 o’clock.”
“And, er?”
“It’s just that most of our guests are here by now.”
“We are coming up from London, and it is quite a long way. I guess we will be with you in about two hours.”
“When exactly will you arrive?”
This was the conversation with the owner of the hotel as we drove up the M6. The said owner greeted us with napkin in hand, wiping crumbs from his mouth as if to say “you have interrupted my supper”. We were then humbled into acknowledging our own metropolitan stupidity by, horror of horrors, booking through hotels.com (or some similar website) instead of booking direct. This was not an auspicious start to a long weekend. In fairness, the stay improved greatly from then on. Our room had large bay windows and a pair of binoculars (nice touch). The furnishings were tasteful and fashionably post-modern. Breakfasts were excellent and served in a spacious dining room by staff who were cheerful and helpful. The LakeSide House Hotel occupies an awkward place in the market between B&B and hotel. It calls itself a hotel, and opens its dining room to the public during the day but the attitude of the owner was distinctly bad B&B. Maybe he was having a bad day. Sadly so then did we. It is an enormous pity that such a lousy reception has cost this hotel an "Excellent" rating, from me at least.

All in all we are confused by your review but thank you for taking time (all be it 8 months after your visit) to leave your candid comments - the good and the obviously implausible. We pride ourselves on the warm welcome we give to all our guests at whatever time they arrive; clearly shown, without exception, by the accurate reviews previously posted here and on many other review sites. Consequently I must express my bewilderment and concern with respect to your motive for the content.
With respect - are you sure you have reviewed the correct B&B?

My husband and I stayed at lakeside house for two nights 13 -14 April.and had a thoroughly relaxing time which was the objective of the break. The hotel has been restored and refurbished to a very high standard and our room number 2 had a lovely view out towards the mountains. The luxurious bathrooms and super comfy beds added to our enjoyment of the break. The food at breakfast was of first class quality with plenty of choice for all and it was served in a light and airy dining room with very pleasant staff.Being only minutes from the town centre and the lake it is in an ideal position and If we return to Keswick we would certainly return to this hotel and will be recommending it to our friends.

Room Tip: Room no 2.......a large airy room with stunning views,

As expected from the numerous reviews this place was perfect. We stayed in a lovely room looking out onto the mountains in the distance. The room was spotlessly clean & very spacious. They even have ipod dock & dab radio and a proper hairdryer, not one of those useless ones fixed to wall in a bathroom like some hotels! We loved that we were walking distance from the town but far enough to have a quiet nights sleep. The breakfast was really good too. All the staff that we met were friendly and very helpful. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Thank you for taking the time to place your glowing review. We know many people use Tripadvisor when deciding where to stay and we are are always glad to see good reviews, but will also address any negative points made immediately - this enables us to keep our standards consistently high. We also like ideas for things that guests would appreciate and that will improve their stay - hence the introduction of the iPod dock/DAB clock-radios with USB charging facility for everyone's gadgets. The ladies on the team chose the hairdryers! I am glad you had a good stay and we hope to welcome you back soon
Kind regards, Peter

We stayed at Lakeside House for 3 nights just after Easter. Because of its location we did not use the car throughout our stay, we were able to walk to wherever we wanted to go. The beds are soooooo comfy with luxurious smooth cotton sheets and floaty soft duck down duvets. There are fantastic views from room 4, over a pitch & putt with the park and mountains in the background. We had 2 armchairs in the bay window , a perfect place to relax and look at the view. Breakfasts were superb, freshly made to order. The hotel has been refurbished using a good blend of ultra modern and traditional decor. We went to the theatre one evening, just a short walk away, and all the restaurants and pubs in Keswick are very local. Take a stroll around Lake Derwentwater, or a trip on the launch. We would love to return.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the park have great views

We're glad you had a good easter with us. Yes, the views are superb from room 4. We take the time to make sure all our beds and linen are clean and compy, its what you need after a days walking in the Lakes. Thankyou for the review, much appriciated.

Cheers
