This is a very nice cafe/bar in a good location in Keswick, it's modern and clean and the staff i met during my visit were extremely pleasant. The coffee and food is good and it has a very nice atmosphere................The problem??? The problem is i don't expect as a customer to have to sit over my very pleasant glass of wine and listen to a manageress who doesn't know when to keep quiet and does not know what professionalism and discretion is. I don't want to know about her staff problems, i don't need to know about N******s sickness, the doctor she visits, whether she is entitled to statuatory sickness pay. The in fighting that she was bemoaning probably has more to do with her management skills than anything is, being a manager is not a power trip, the way she spoke to the member of staff who was on duty was not professional and was not warranted. When i am in an establishment i would at least like a pretence that all is well, take your business and your lap top through to a back room and do your work there, stop bad mouthing your staff to other staff and ultimately your customers and try and get to grips with the basics of business because ultimately you are the reason i will not be back in this establishment.

This is the bar where the locals go - so it is busy all year and can be packed at times. Good choice of beers and wine, but if you fancy cake and a coffee they do that too. There is a limited range of bar meals, though lunch times only. Thursday night is usually live music and the acts I have seen have all been good (Specially Anne Marie Quinn) They don't allow young children in the evenings or pushchairs at any time. It's a "Bar with Rooms" which are modern and very nice and good value for money. So if you fancy a weekend away, arrive on a Thursday, then after a good night in the bar you can just stagger upstairs to bed. If you appreciate interior design you will like the way the bar is done - good use of colour and accessories. It's nothing like a formulaic town centre winebar you see in other parts of the country, it's much more personal.

The second cafe in keswick to tell us we were not welcome due to having a buggy with us. I live locally and have popped in for coffees etc here before but I will never set foot in here again. My daughter is 6 months old and we have never been told we weren't welcome anywhere until today. I am appauled at how 'un-family friendly' a place can be especially when it was 1pm and the the place was completely empty bar one table. I have eaten in busy restaurants many times with my pram never mind a buggy and have always had brilliant warm welcomes. Top tip - go to Sweeneys, very welcoming, nice beer garden, we took our £40 here!

Thank you for your comments regarding push chairs.

We are sorry that you felt unwelcome, as this is certainly not what we wish at Cafe Bar 26.

Indeed, we do have a notice explaining our situation with regards to the push chairs. Although we are more than happy to accommodate small children throughout the day, we kindly ask that their push chairs be folded up so as not to obstruct necessary exit routes. This does not mean we are 'un-family friendly', only that we are trying to find a fine line between our customer's enjoyment and their safety. This is not always easy but we aim to do our best!

We hope that in the future you will visit us again.

We were looking for a late lunch after a long walk when we found this place and were not disappointed. We were warned that there may be a 30 minute wait, but we weren't in a hurry so decided to wait, and chill out with a drink and the paper relaxing on a large comfortable sofa. The olives that we ordered came with our drinks so we were able to enjoy those and the time passed very quickly. The wait was less than predicted which was great and it was worth the wait, the food was absolutely spot on, very tasty, well presented and the service was excellent. We rounded off a great lunch with coffee and cakes, stretching a late lunch almost into afternoon tea! A thoroughly enjoyable experience that we would look forward to repeating the next time we are in Keswick

If you're looking for good coffee consider heading to Square Orange; Cafe 26 serves Illy coffee beans, which probably are the best mass produced and commonly available beans. However Cafe 26's barista did not deliver a good espresso with crema.
