“Where to start...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2011

We decided to eat here as had not tried it before.big mistake. We waited 50 minutes for four main courses. Lamb shank at nearly 13 pound we expected a nice hearty pub dish. It was supposed to be with red currant sauce, mash and veg it came and was with frozen chips. One floret of cauliflower and one of brocolli with a packet style gravy sauce.
Another meal was steak supposed to be medium it was well done and also a mushroom pasta that was more like a mushroom soup with bits of pasta in it. After complaining about our lamb the waitress said "ohthey having a nightmare in there" no apologywas made or drink even for waiting nearly an hour for our food.

We will not return as so much was wrong with it. Tgeew place was not even busy. Why cant a pub with a small menu master the dishes it has. Makes me very upset especially as i am in the catering trade. No excuse for it and lackof any customer service to top it off.

We will stick to the pubs we know in keswick in future.

“Something different”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2011

We visited twice during our stay in Keswick, both meals were excellent, well above the standard pub grub fare, trout with a prawn and caper lemon butter sauce, and a chicken supreme on a mushroom pasta base, something different., and prices in line with any other pub, Service excellent, on both a busy Saturday night and a quiet Monday night.

“How not to run a pub!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2011

Dear oh dear were to start? Time was that this place used to be full, you had to book to eat here of a weekend, service and food used to be great aswell. Now you've got a pub that looks unloved,it's a little dirty and theres a stale smell. The old guy who served us did not want to enter into any kind of conversation, any attempt at conversation was met with sarcasm before he went and sat at the far end of the bar ,staring into space and as far away from the customers as possible....a bit strange really.
While every other establishment in Keswick was heaving there were just 4 people in here. There was no music and absolutely no atmosphere apart from the feeling of being an inconvenience.
We made it halfway through our drinks before we could take no more and left.
The service in this place is what gives british tourist resorts a bad name.
It would be nice to see someone who's interested take over this place and restore it to it's former glory when the current regime inevitably fails.

“Less crowded than some of the other pubs with decent food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2011

Most of the pubs in the center of town were a bit too crowded for us to find a table so we went here. It was off the beaten path a bit and very interesting on the inside. Food was reasonably priced. I had a pasta with mushrooms and a creamy sauce. The taste was fine, but the sauce was a bit runny and there was too much. Otherwise it was tasty and enjoyable.

“Quirky but well worth it.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2011

A Robinsons venue, the building itself is very unusual once you get inside - check out the different levels with the cast iron ballustrading...
Does not pretend to be anything fancy but the food was wholesome and good value - we went at lunchtime.
Soups and roasts were all decent fare.
