“Very friendly and accommodating”

We were very impressed by the friendly owners and their willingness to accommodate our 2 labradors - it's a great place to stay if you have dogs!! The breakfast was lovely too! We would definitely stay here again when in the area.

Room Tip: If you do take dogs, try to ensure that you get one of the larger rooms; we were a bit squashed with...

A friendly welcome from owners and dogs! I had a single room which was quite small but nice and also the bonus of a large bathroom (with bath and shower) just down the corridor. Great perk as single rooms usually never have a bath. Breakfasts were huge, with cooked options, homemade bread and local honey plus a variety of lovely fresh fruit and cereals. The B&B although dog friendly did not smell of dog at all and so people without dogs should not be put off and the dogs residing there were lovely and very well behaved. Only 5 minutes walk to the centre of Keswick and a couple of minutes to a small park and 20 mins walk through the park to a great pub and food (or 5 minutes ot several other pubs in Keswick and about 10/15 mins to the lake and theatre. Only slight drawback was that parking was limited as a big conference going on but all of the guests got parked close by so not really a problem. Also there is so much available on foot that you don't really need the car much. I would definitely go back. Thanks Sue and Dave!

Thank you for your wonderful feed back, it was a pleasure to help you both on your stay with us. We are really pleased that you managed to catch so many fish in just a short time. Next time, you'll have to show Dave how to catch them.

We stayed at Larry's lodge for the last two nights of our honeymoon and were greeted with a very warm welcome (even a beautiful congratualitions card on our pillow!). We were allowed to check in early to a cosy and very clean room with lovely decor. The owners were chatty and interesting and we have never met such lovely people.
We enjoyed a warm welcome and home-from home- environment with tasty breakfast (especially the home made bread-yummy!).
Perfect for a weekend stay, central location and reasonable prices. Our whippet Sonny was made to feel very welcome too and the cleanliness of the rooms do not reflect that it is a dog friendly bnb. Perfect stay to end a wonderful week as a newly married couple. We will be back to celebrate our anniversary! Mr and Mrs Clegg xxxxx

Room Tip: cosy, clean, lots of hot drink choices xx

I'll be honest. My missus is a dog lover whereas I have a life so this was my first experience of 'Dog Friendly' accomodation. My opinion of a dog lover was someone who warms to the animal and makes a fuss. The male of the B and B chose to knee my puppy in the chest upon meeting her which greatly distressed my wife. I noticed the difference between my dog and Kyle, the owners dog. It was like one on valium and one on crack. Puppies have spirit and I got the impression that the owners were expecting all dogs to be like Kyle and couldn't they couldn't adapt to different scenarios.

The place itself was very clean. The location is ideal for a stretch into town but don't under any circumstances bring any food back to the B and B. We did and were swiftly reprimanded.

Dogs are not allowed to be left in the room when you go to breakfast so I would be interested to know what happens in the summer when temperatures are soaring and the dog has to be put into the vehicle? This to be goes against the term dog friendly.

The toast that everyone harps on about is like crackerbread. It's one thing to smile politely and go 'mmmm' when face to face but be real now. It's average.

I would not go back again as whilst the rates were cheap, the fines that were administered as punishments for the dog chewing a plug, the dog eating a door stopper (which was actually appealed when the idiots found out it was on the dressing table) and the fine for using a brolley make it expensive.

Go if you don't have a dog.

What a shame it has taken you 24 months to voice your grievance!

"The male of the B and B chose to knee my puppy in the chest upon meeting her which greatly distressed my wife".
The knee was used to push your puppy away NOT, as you have suggested, to knee it in the chest. It is one of the methods used in training disobedient puppies. A brief explanation of the method was given and only then was the procedure carried out WITH your permission.

" I noticed the difference between my dog and Kyle, the owners dog. It was like one on valium and one on crack. Puppies have spirit and I got the impression that the owners were expecting all dogs to be like Kyle and couldn't they couldn't adapt to different scenarios"...
In Kyle's defence, he is not on Valium, he is just a well trained dog. He might not have made it to be a Guide Dog, but he is certainly a joy to be around, whereas Shawny was hypo-active the moment you arrived at our establishment. I remember you distinctly, even though it is nearly two years ago, and when you arrived Shawny had just done a very long car journey and neither you nor your wife made any attempt to exercise your dog in order for him to expend his energy. Instead, you choose to stay indoors almost the entire weekend and entertain him by throwing items all over the bedroom to try and wear him out. One of these items was no doubt our doorstop!

"The place itself was very clean.".. Thank you.

“The location is ideal for a stretch into town but don't under any circumstances bring any food back to the B and B. We did and were swiftly reprimanded"...
We certainly do not encourage our guests to bring food into the rooms for lots of reasons. If you checked into a b and b after someone has eaten fish and chips, or an aromatic curry, and the smell still lingered, would you be happy? Plus, food has an awful habit of finding its way into the bed or on the covers and can cause stains. However, if you bothered to ask, we could have given you a plate and you could have eaten in the dining room. Or, you could have eaten in the dozen or so dog friendly pubs in town, some 7 minutes walk away. We have a list, again, all you had to do was ask!

"Dogs are not allowed to be left in the room when you go to breakfast so I would be interested to know what happens in the summer when temperatures are soaring and the dog has to be put into the vehicle? This to me goes against the term dog friendly"....
Naturally, if the outside temperature is hot we would never suggest leaving a dog inside a hot car, if you had bothered to ask we would have been happy to offer a staggered breakfast, which is exactly what we did yesterday morning when another couple with a timid terrier who suffered from separation anxiety did. Due to EEC regulations, the only dogs allowed in the dining room are actually assistance dogs, not pets. We do not make up the EEC rules, but we certainly have to abide by them.

"The toast that everyone harps on about is like crackerbread. It's one thing to smile politely and go 'mmmm' when face to face but be real now. It's average."
Regarding the toast, we happen to think it is wonderful, so do thousands of our regular guests, many of whom actually ask to take a loaf home with them. I guess your tastes are just different.

".. the fines that were administered as punishments for the dog chewing a plug, the dog eating a door stopper (which was actually appealed when the idiots found out it was on the dressing table) and the fine for using a brolley make it expensive".
Just to refresh your memory, the "plug" was actually an integral part of our brand new shower and was intended to facilitate in cleaning the shower drain. You had allowed your dog to play in the shower, it had clawed and chewed the cover so that it was impossible to replace and a complete new shower trap had to be purchased. Incidentally the shower trap cost a lot more than we charged!

If you had read the tariff you would note that all breakages have to paid for, it clearly states that in black and white, displayed on the wall for everyone to view. The same thing would apply to any other b and b anywhere in the country, whether you had Shawny with you or not. If you damage anything, naturally it has to be replaced.

It was a very wet Bank Holiday weekend BUT we did not charge you for the use of the brolly.

The couple who own this B&B are just so lovely and friendly, they really made our stay. The rooms are so clean, I was amazed as they have many doggy visitors here and didn't see one dog hair anywhere! The breakfast was tasty - cereals, range of fruits, yoghurt then a full English which was a good portion. It is really close to town, just a couple of minutes walk. We went climbing and then went up Skiddaw the following day and Dave and Sue were really enthusiastic and helpful in providing us with local information. We will definately come back and I've told my dog all about it and he can't wait to go either.
