We booked 4 nights and extended this to 5. The location is excellent we could walk to many different fell walks without having to use the car. All of the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful The room was smaller than we expected and there was not the usual fridge but this would not stop us from staying here again. We cannot imagine a better setting for a hotel and we enjoyed every minute of our stay.

We stayed here for one night at a cost of £98 for a double room. We were allocated room number 2 which was tiny but did have a nice view towards the lake. The setting of the hotel is lovely and it seems well kept but i would not like to stay there more than one night due to the size of the room and the bathroom which had the most feeble shower i have ever tried to use. I was also surprised that there were no hairdryers in rooms, although you can request one from reception.
The bed although a double seemed quite small and wasn't that comfortable, it creaked whenever you moved and i could feel some of the springs.
Food in the restraurant was lovely and ample.

The location of the hotel is just amazing, surrounded by forest but if you get a room at the front you get an amazing view to wake up to. Dont get me wrong, this is a great place, but we paid a good price for our two nights and frankly having normally stayed in B+B's this didn't quite live up to what i was hoping for.
The staff are excellent, the food is superb, though i wanted beans with my breakfast, i think beans are an integral part of breakfast, though the rest was excellent, the breakfast menu did say 'fruit' as well however this consisted of tinned mandarin oranges and tinned grapefruit, so not good really, Earl Grey tea was a bonus though. We had a bar meal one of the nights, i had sausages and mash with a mushroom sauce, delicious, make sure you are hungry if you order it! My partner had Chilli, it was quite bland and was presented with grated Cheddar on top of it, anybody ever heard of this before? It was a shock to us! There is a fair selection of drinks, though no real ale, only John Smith's smooth, so that got left alone.
We had room 21, very spacious, nicely furnished, comfy bed, and loads of room to put clothes etc. Good heavy curtains which kept the light out well, though they were in need of re-hanging in places. Very nicely carpeted too, soft on the feet. The bathroom however was another story. Everything works fine, good shower, and a hot bath should it be required, however the pink mermaid boarding on the walls and the industrial vinyl on the floor severely let the whole place down for me, it reminded me of a hospital toilet, though even the NHS wouldn't have paint peeling from the ceiling edge.
I have marked the sleep quality low because it appeared as though whoever was sleeping in the room above couldn't, they were up most of the night, seemingly moving furniture and i thought at one point they were taking the carpet up!!
This is a really nice place, but for the money it wasn't worth it to me, or as my other half might say..............And yes, maybe i am

Just returned from a two night stay, What a lovely hotel, excellent location, very helpful and courteous staff. Our room was very well proportioned, clean and well maintained. easy access to lots of walks from or around the lake. The owners seem to have perfected a level of service that was there when you need it but not in your face, a warm , relaxed and friendly place to have a break. Evening meal and breakfast was excellent. We will most definitely be returning. Don't be put off by the negative reviews you may read ; they do not reflect our experience. Somebody said there were no views! just open your eyes and drink it in!! Stephen and Judith. PS if you don't like rain try Wales!!!!

It started badly. Pouring it down with rain when we got there. We were shown to our room that supposedly had a lake view. One could just see some water at one end of the lake but a lake view it was not. Rain was pouring through the window onto the inner windowsill and all the staff did was get some towels to soak up the water. It is advertised as a family run hotel but they must have been running it from a distance. The staff were clearly not interested in us at all. The menu was very limited. The bath was mouldy. We had intended staying 2 nights but left after one, The staff never asked why. I suspect they knew. I did not write a review at the time as I didn't know about Trip Advisor. I tracked down the owner and took up the above points with him by email. According to him there used to be a lake view but he was not allowed to cut the trees. The disgusting bath was "cleaning residue".
I have just checked their website and nothing has changed. There is even a photo entitled "view across the lake" and there is no lake in sight.

We stayed here for a weekend break and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had our dog with us, and had an ideal room in the bungalow annexe which meant that we could park close to the room, and get the dog in and out easily.

The beds in the room were really comfortable - easily among the best we have ever slept on in a hotel. The evening meals in the restaurant were very good, and with an impressive selection of wines. Try the Sea Bass !

The location, at the end of Derwentwater and the head of Borrowdale meant that there was good walking without having to drive anywhere (we would recommend the round trip : hotel, lake shore,, Ashness, Watendlath, Rosthwaite, Grange, hotel).

All in all, the hotel exceeded our expectations, and we will undoubtedly be going back soon.

This place has the best room view i have ever had. The food was 4 star at least. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Gardens were well maintained and we watched birds right next to the window scrabbling over the food. 100 Meters away is excellent water sports facilities and the view from the center of the lake is serene and breathtaking. There are just to many walks to take and pubs to enjoy. This place has a two star rating which has destroyed my trust in the star rating system for ever. I will from now on only stay in two star places if this is what they are like. Very affordable champagne on beer money type stuff.
