“Room with a view”

This hotel is in the process of being refurbished but is still worth visiting. Very friendly, helpful staff, a view to die for and a breakfast that will keep you going all day. Take the dog if you like. Average price but above average service.

Room Tip: The cottages all have god views.

we stayed here friday and saturday night in march, what a lovely place, we are in our 40s i think this hotel is aimed at more the maturer couple, we also took our dog, which was no problem, the dog was allowed in the bar and selected areas in the dining room,we were given a room out of the main hotel, its actually a bungalow at the back of the hotel, this was great, spacious and very clean, but a little dated, loads of room around the outside for the dog to to run around, she loved it,, but the area outside at night is very dark a little lighting wouldnt go amiss .. staff very friendly, bar good,, but expensive,, breakfast taste good but minimal,, just 1 sausage 1 egg, 2 bacon and few mushrooms... NO BEANS,,, we decided to have an evening meal,, again expensive,, but was worth it,, it was lovely, their mashed potato was amazing,, the views from the main dining room were stunning,, and walking was great,, plenty of great walks and scenic routes to take, would def go back

Room Tip: ask for a front hotel room.. no view from the back.. just the bungalow we stayed in

Not a lot i can add to other reviews really except that photographs don't do the views across Derwent Water to Catbells etc true justice, you have to see these with your own eyes.

Sitting having breakfast, evening meal or just a drink in such a location and with such a view is sheer beauty............

Oh, and the hotel is quite nice too :-)

Staff very friendly and helpful, rooms small but clean and adequate, food very nice

A gem in the Lake District.

Room Tip: Try and ask for a room with a Lake view

We stayed for three nights in August and we liked the place. It`s not that cheap, but it`s probably just about worth it.
We got a room upstairs in the main building so we had a great view out towards the lake (just the very end to be fair, but it was still water ! ) and the brooding mountains beyond. You can usually catch a ferry boat round Derwent Water from the landing stage near the hotel but low water levels when we went meant it didn`t run all the way to the southern end where the hotel is situated. The location of the Mary Mount is a little out of the way in that you really have to go North (back through Keswick, which can be quite congested) if you want to get anywhere in the Lake District, but at least that means it`s a bit quieter then some locations.
Without doubt the crowning glory of the hotel is its dining room with the views, and the wildlife.
We ate a couple of evening meals there which were glorified pup grub really (an impression heightened by having to place your order at the bar ! ? ! ) but the food was actually pretty good and so was the service.
I`ve left the best bit till last. Breakfast is a treat. The food and the service is good, but the wildlife is fabulous. The hotel have put loads of bird feeders near dining room windows and they attract huge numbers of birds, and, at all three of the breakfasts we had, a Red Squirrel !
What more do you want ?

Four of us have just arrived back from a thoroughly enjoyable two nights stay at the Mary Mount Hotel, and are still struck by its charm, excellent hospitality and fabulous location. This charmingly intimate hotel has a slightly elevated position giving excellent views across Derwent Water and of the gorgeous fells opposite (Catbells etc). The hotel provides spacious free parking space, has pleasant beer gardens to the front (gravelled) and side (grass, terraced) so you can comfortably immerse yourself in the impressive natural beauty of Borrowdale on good weather/sunny days whilst partaking some refreshments. The ground floor restaurant is cleverly set with large paned glass windows so guests can enjoy excellent views of Derwent Water and the fells. Nice to watch the antics of the birds at the many feeding stations which are placed close to the windows. Brilliant the hotel is open for service all day, no clock watching. Excellent breakfasts offering plenty of choices. Found the variety of food, drink and considerate service were of an appreciably consistent standard, reasonably priced too, so we also took all our evening meals in the restaurant. Also on the ground floor is a relaxing and cosy wood panelled bar with comfortable seating, providing books for reading and games, and a charming equally cosy separate lounge. All of the staff we had contact with were most welcoming, naturally friendly, efficient and considerate. The twin bedded, en-suite spacious ground floor room (22) which two of our party stayed in was pleasantly furnished, nicely decorated and gave views out across Derwent Water from the rear of the hotel. Good room for anyone with limited mobility. We enjoyed a more elevated view of Derwent Water and the fells from our room (2) located on the first floor to the side of the hotel. Our double bedded en-suite room was more traditionally but well decorated, compact and lovely and warm especially when returning from a walk in the invigorating elements! Good sized bathroom with heated towel rail. Pleased the room was satisfactorily serviced and cleaned by the chamber maid. Provided clean cotton bedlinen and towels, tea/coffee biccies tray, flat screen TV. Sufficient storage space, with just enough room for our medium sized dog. Plenty of piping hot (warning!) water on supply for baths/showers. Found the shower too temperamental for comfortable showering, but no great problem, as we could use the bath. Greatly appreciated the hotel is dog friendly, allowing well behaved dogs in the rooms, bar and lounge areas. They even offered to set up tables for dining in the bar or lounge if you needed to keep your dog with you at mealtimes - would even provide breakfast for your dog. You can park your car and forget it, as there are several linear and circular walks direct from the hotel, also take the launch from the nearby jetty (just a few yards from the hotel) to explore Derwent Water or Keswick. Hire canoes/kayaks nearby. Quite nice to walk to Keswick along the water's edge (water levels allowing) to Keswick, and take the launch back to the hotel. A regular bus service also operates nearby. Can also recommend taking the car to explore deeper into Borrowdale, it's stunning. A most charming and invigorating stay, actually feel a little hesitant to broadcast this little gem of a place!

Room Tip: Fabulous views, cosy, but temperamental shower.

Stayed overnight to break our journey; not been here for many years. The staff are largely non UK although their English was fine, and they were courteous. Our double room was very small, clean and with basic furnishings; the bathroom and shower complimentated the room! We stayed for the same price at an excellent 4 Star hotel at LHR so that is the comparison; not the scenery, I know, but was excellent value which is more than can be said for here. The bed was awful Dinner was OK but no more though breakfast was better. Like many UK hotels/inns in the lakes and highlands, they live off the scenery and the lack of decent accomodation, and in my view overcharge. We were surprised at the effusive comments of other reviewers and will not be returning.
