Charming little family-owned bed and breakfast, very close to town centre. Most accommodating and welcoming folk who take time to get to know you better and cater to your requirements well. Clean cozy room with en suite bathroom, comfortable bed and pleasant view of the street. Enjoyable home-cooked breakfast (Veggie, Meaty or Fishy) in front room with bay windows. Interesting literature dotted about the house. A very affordable first rate stay. We will be back. George and Louise White

Booking was easy and the price was reasonable.
We booked the "Luxury 4 poster bed room" as it was for my partners birthday but I think my idea of Luury and the owners differed somewhat. I did not expect the Ritz for the price and our expectations of a B&B ARE realistic but the decor is tired, there was hardly any space around the bed and the room was by no means luxurious.
Breakfast was ok, but after staying at The Shakespeare in Lancaster the previous night we were very disappointed. There was no warmth or likeability about the place or its staff.

My wife and I stayed at Squirrel Lodge in Keswick. We found the accomodation to be fresh, clean and very comfortable within a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Pats breakfasts are a real treat which are clearly prepared freshly to order. We are already thinking about another weekend in Keswick and we will definatlely stay at Squirrel Lodge again.

Dreadful odour generally
Breakfast - soggy toast
Colour scheme gave me a headache
scruffy faded towels
extremely dirty carpet
decorations - both bedroom and dining room was like sitting on a bric a brac stall
nothing romantic or lovely about it at all - beware chaps - likely to result in DIVORCE

I write in response to comments itemised:
* Odour - We have plug-in air fresheners on all floors, so any bad smell within their room is beyond our control. We can only assume it was self-generated.
* Toast - How do you get soggy toast?! By definition toast is crisp! We assume the rest of our breakfast was to their liking.
* Colour scheme - Many guests compliment us on our warm colour scheme, you can't please everyone.
* Towels - Most of the towels we use are white so how can you tell they are faded? We replace towels annually.
* Carpets - All carpets cleaned annually at start of season. Its unavoidable to get a few marks - certainly an exaggeration to say 'extremely dirty'.
* Bris-a-Brac - Bedroom has NO ornaments so we absolutely refute the inference that it contains bric-a-brac. The Dining room contains items of interest and tourist information, many people see this as a personal touch and homely.
* Location - to give a rating of just 2 for location gives the impression that this guest shouldn't really have come to Keswick at all if the location wasn't good enough!

We try hard to provide comfortable, welcoming, good-value accommodation. Most people who appreciate what we do tell us, the few who don't would rather cowardly post it on the internet other than report problems to us at the time. The complainant has used the word divorce - I think this infers there was more to complain about than just the accommodation!

What can I say! A friend and I stayed with Pat at Squirrel Lodge in June. Pat's breakfasts are fantastic, melt in the mouth kippers! Our room was at the top of the house with a lovely view. Pat made us a more than ample packed lunch on the day we walked 10miles, it was lovely to have someone make our sandwiches as we are both Mums. All in all it was a great find and I am returning there in August with the rest of my family. Thank you Pat

Althought I though the cost was reasonable, the room was very small (room1). My main complaint was that when having braekfast it was freezing as the central heating had gone off. I did hear it come on each morning but it must have gone off before breakfast which made it very uncomfortable in the dining room. I did request the heating to be put on as did another guest on a separate occasion. Maybe the owner was trying to save money but surely keeping your guests warm & comfortable is priority. My bathroom was also cold & was heated by one of those poxy towel rails which give out little heat. This had been switched off by the staff one day after we returned from a long cold walk (thanks). There was one other thing, you need a proper wardrobe in room 1. The hanging rail is a little poor. Try rearranging the room to fit one in.

We booked Squirrel Lodge for 5 nights and then read the adverse reviews. We arrived and were pleasantly surprised on all counts. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was superb. The bedroom was a little small, but typical for the area. Car parking is on the road, but caused no problems and it is only a few minutes walk into the Market Square. We would have no hesitation in staying there again.
