Very interesting, I found the facts fascinating. Good facilities on site too the cafe smelt good, but we didn't partake as we had brought lunch. Toilets were clean and very posh. We then walked up to the old quary which was very steep but worth it, there is an old miners cottage up there and the views were sensational.

I went on the Via Ferrata which had been given as a birthday present. This was the second time and there had been quite a few changes from the first visit ~ even more thrilling. For anyone with no fear of heights it's a must do. The instructor was excellent.

You need to trust your map/directions when finding this one as it isn't well signposted but it is worth the drive. On a nice day the views would be beautiful and there are walks to be had around the area. The tour itself was very interesting. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative (and entertaining on occasion). Nice little café and a good shop with lots of local pottery and other products and of course lots of slate related items all at quite reasonable prices. Close enough to Keswick to have a wander round afterwards.

It has been so interesting to see how this place has evolved over the years. There is a tour of the mine which is fascinating. It is a great opportunity to see how the miners used to work and get an appreciation of the conditions they had and compare to today. There is a shop too and they will make signs while you wait. The cafe there has morphed from an honestly box and a help yourself kitchen to cakes, food and hot drinks which is often a welcome refuge to cold and wet hikers. The loos are out of a luxury hotel - not a mine. We were there for the Tour of Britain cycle ride and it was a hive of activity. Well done to all the staff who worked so hard to cater for all the cycle fans/hikers/tourists. One girl told me she'd been up since 5.30 getting ready for this event - the cyclists didn't even turn up until about 2.30! Thank you for the hot chocolate it was heaven sent!
