I am embarrassed when visitors come to Sydney and are charged too much. It seems that in England places of interest do the same.
I understand you are thereto make a profit. I support that. But really £5.95 for a disc of slate saying Coast to Coast! You do a great job there and everyone loves the story of the reopening of the mine so don't sour it by over charging.

Great location. Interesting to visit. Great place to head off into the fells, especially Haystacks, Fleetwith Pike and a load more.

I originally did the Via Ferrata a couple of years ago with my partner. We both loved it. We planned another trip to Cumbria this year [which is quite a travel from Buckinghamshire] and decided to give the new Via Ferrata Extreme a go. We were both excited by the prospect. On the day of the event it was raining heavily with some lightning forecast. We rang just before setting off to make sure that it was still going ahead. We arrived in good time and booked in. Then 5 minutes before our start time they told us it was cancelled due to the weather. They were only able to offer a gift voucher to come another day. Unfortunately, we are not able to come back in the near future. No manager was available to discuss this. We were promised a call back twice but have not heard anything. We have not had a reply to 2 letters sent.
My advise is to not book in advance as if they cancel the session for whatever reason you are not entitled to any money back. This does not matter where you live or whether you are able to make it to another session.

If you're in the area, this is well worth a visit to see and learn how slate was mined years ago. Sadly, the person who bought and reopened the mine died in a tragic accident but the family are doing a great job keeping it open and trying to fulfil the original wishes with great passion. There are a few tricky bits within the mine itself, which might be a bit difficult for those with mobility problems or very young children. However, there were young children on our tour and they did manage. If in doubt, give them a call in advance. This mine represents an important part of history; so if you are in the area, please do pay them a visit. A great way to spend a morning or afternoon.
