“Great location”

I've stayed in the Highgate hotel twice and I really like it. It's next door to the Brewery Arts Centre and so right on the Kendal high street. The rooms are very clean and you everything you'll need: they're reasonably priced too. You even have shutters on your windows in case you need to block out the road noise or light pollution from the high street. The staff are kind and welcoming. They even have a parrot who has been known to fly around and have a nibble at the visitor's book but I just saw the evidence of its little foray. If I ever have a function or reason to visit Kendal I wouldn't hesitate to book the Highgate Hotel again.

We stayed at the Highgate Hotel on a cycling trip from Lands End to John O'Groats we were made to feel extremely welcome. We arrived late one evening and the landlady immediately offered to wash and dry all our cycling clothes which was absolutely fantastic. A very warm and friendly place with a great Indian Restaurant close by. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The bikes were stored securely round the back. Couldn't fault it. Thank you very much.

This hotel is right in town with parking, so ideal for the business traveler and tourist. Although a little dated this does not detract from the very comfortable rooms which are clean and well furnished with en suites. The owners are very friendly and helpful, its my choice when the center of Kendal is a must, the Brewery Arts Center across the car park is an absolute bonus!

This hotel, which has more of a B&B atmosphere, is situated right in the center of Kendal and has secure parking to the rear at no extra cost. The rooms are tight and can be noisy, but are nicely restored and carry the antique character of the building.

The landlady was pleasant and helpful and the breakfast tasty and satisfying.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.

This hotel is in an old building which has been refurbished, close to the centre of town, and with the benefit of a car park at the rear. The room I had was clean and comfortable. Rooms at the front can have a bit of traffic noise, but at the rear are very quiet.
The owners are helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the rear. The family room is very good.

On the plus side the car park is first class. Down side is this is a tired old hotel that looks as though it needed a facelift a long time ago. The worst part is that the whole hotel reeks of cigarette smoke which is caused by the landlady. (you could tell from her 20 a day voice). You could smell the smoke everywhere, even while laid in bed trying to sleep. This put us off breakfast and we couldn't get out fast enough.

It's the typical oldie worldie hotel, Tudor by design so it has the black rafters in the lobbiy. One thing that impressed was the car parking facilities, plenty of roon although don't expect the same if it snows, as they don't clear the carpark, so once it becomes hard packed BEWARE you're in for fun, Equally the pathway that they did clear through it wasn't maintained and be came iced over - the have Grand Kids there so a fiver each would have cured that! Inside the rooms are spotless, couldn't fault the room, shower worked fine and was well preapared. Just be aware that it takes a little time to warm as it goes from cold to scalding. Breakfast was great, the usual full Engilish and plenty of it and the service was good to. Take a room on the top floor though.. as SOUND travels throughout, we had the mandatory herd of elephants that slammed doors, shouted and bang their way through the hotel. So be warned, take the top floor s that nobody is above you! Apart from that I'd recommend this hotel and its handy for the town centre. Great Stay!

Room Tip: Take Earplugs and make sure its a top floor room!
