“Best hot chocolate in Kendal?”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

I love The Gate! Such a fantastic idea and absolutely no compromise on quality. They have kept to a very simple soup/sandwich type menu and it works. My son says they do the best hot chocolate in Kendal. The staff are lovely, the food is great and I would have no hesitation recommending this to others. Service can be slow, but bearing in mind none of the waiting staff are paid and experienced, this is a small price to pay. If you are coming to Kendal, please pay the Gate a visit, they are a great enterprise, but when you are there you don't feel in anyway that the cafe, food or quality are anything but excellent.

“Peaceful, quiet, nice food”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

This is a calm oasis just next to the excellent Deja Vu restaurant. Cool peaceful interior, nice place to chat or read. Well selected lunches, soups sandwiches. The manager had to apologise twice as each of our orders had just sold out but he was able to offer perfectly acceptable substitutes with such charm and good humour it was only possible to feel like customers who mattered.

“high quality lunch at reasonable price”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We had lunch here; the cheese and humus platters. The food was very well presented and the ingredients were obviously of high quality.

The staff were helpful and attentive. The cafe is very attractively laid out and there is a chill area with magazines and some children's toys off the main room.
