This is a typical gastro style pub, with typical pub grub food. Whilst the food and service were ok, we found it a bit noisy with other diners holding very loud conversations. Certainly not the place for a quiet meal.

We're here on a few days break and having seen literature for Romneys in the holiday cottage, thought we'd give it a go - good call!! We went back twice in two days, the second time to try the Sunday Lunch Carvery (although they do a carvery each day of the week). It was lovely, all of the meats were cooked to perfection. Service is friendly, not rushed at all. Can really recommend Romneys.

We had arranged a weekend away for ourselves and 28 friends of our car club the MXican5's (aka MX5 owners club North West Midlands area) in Kendal and had arranged to stay at the near by Days Inn just off the M6. Knowing that we had hungry mouths to feed at the end of a days driving Romneys was recommended to us by the reception staff at the motel. We visited Romneys several weeks before our planned trip. The manager could have not been more accommodating. We did not at this time sample the food as we had our little dog in the car. The meals however looked very nice and the surroundings were really impressive. The wine cellar on entering the building is something really worth looking into (quite literally). The booking made and email addresses exchanged and menus supplied we waited with baited breath for the experience.
On arrival a member of staff came out to greet us in the car park and assisted us in parking 16 cars. On walking in there were some loud gasps of breath on viewing the wine cellar (you need to see it to appreciate what I mean). Our area was reserved at the back of the venue and with in minutes of sitting down with our drinks the starters were arriving for those that had opted for them. We tucked into lots of delicious really really hot (temperature not spicy) food. The serving staff were very quick and friendly. The ooo's and aahhh's were a nice sound to hear as it is sometimes difficult to please so many people. The starters over with soon the main courses were coming out. Piping hot and fantastically presented. Again the ooo's and aahhh's were a delight to hear. I visited each table and asked how the meals were, the beaming smiles said everything. We have visited a lot of eating establishments over the last two years with the club and it is a heartwarming feeling that everyone had really enjoyed the food and service and no one could fault anything. Some of our party managed to fit in desserts. One stating quite clearly that it was the best knickerbocker glory ever tasted. Another saying the ice cream was divine. It was a very big resounding hit with all of our party and we will defiantly be revisiting. The chef, serving staff and management were fantastic and I can't wait to visit it again.

We will try and book some rooms next time and see if Agnes pays us a visit. She must be resident for a reason I think the fantastic food would be a good guess.

10/10. Could not find a fault at all. Thank you so much

Becoming a bit of a regular for lunch! It's just great for meeting friends without having to go through all the traffic into town! Excellent service and excellent food! It's also very busy! Very popular and has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I love the mix of couches and chairs. the sharing specials are good too!

We recently stayed 3 nights in Kendal and were recommended to try this restaurant. We first visited on a Sunday night and we both had the carvery which was freshly cooked, not left over from lunchtime. Best we have ever had. We booked again for the Tuesday evening which was steak night. The next evening we went to another restaurant which was a great disappointment and wish we had gone to Romneys again. The staff were very pleasant, helpful and the service was excellent. On the Tuesday night we were most impressed again. Excellent value for money.
