Our family of five decided to go to Romney's on bank holiday Monday for a carvery. We arrived at 5.30pm and were shown to a table straight away as it wasn't busy. After waiting 1/2 an hour, and almost ready to leave, a waiter came to take our order. We told him we would all like the carvery and he said we could go straight up for it! Wish he'd told us half an hour previously! Anyway, off we went and proceeded to select our meat. Then came the veg. The cauliflower cheese looked appalling. You could tell by looking at it that the cauliflowers were well past there best. The tops of the florrets were all covered in that grey spotty stuff that they get after a while so we gave that a miss! The rest of the veg didn't look to bad, so we thought, so we helped ourselves to a selection. Once we got back to the table and started to eat it was a different story. The food was Luke warm and the veg tasted as though it had been sitting out since lunchtime. The Yorkshire puddings were so chewy they were impossible to eat and all but one of us left them. The roast potatoes were the same, chewy and cold! The kids couldn't eat anymore so went out to play ( I will say the play area is great, the best part of the pub). When the waitress came to collect the plates she asked if everything was ok. When l told her no not really and mentioned about the veg tasting although it has been there a while she said that it shouldn't have been then disappeared! We are local to Kendal and have been for meals here numerous times in the past but this last visit has put us off so we won't be visiting again.
