Our family of five decided to go to Romney's on bank holiday Monday for a carvery. We arrived at 5.30pm and were shown to a table straight away as it wasn't busy. After waiting 1/2 an hour, and almost ready to leave, a waiter came to take our order. We told him we would all like the carvery and he said we could go straight up for it! Wish he'd told us half an hour previously! Anyway, off we went and proceeded to select our meat. Then came the veg. The cauliflower cheese looked appalling. You could tell by looking at it that the cauliflowers were well past there best. The tops of the florrets were all covered in that grey spotty stuff that they get after a while so we gave that a miss! The rest of the veg didn't look to bad, so we thought, so we helped ourselves to a selection. Once we got back to the table and started to eat it was a different story. The food was Luke warm and the veg tasted as though it had been sitting out since lunchtime. The Yorkshire puddings were so chewy they were impossible to eat and all but one of us left them. The roast potatoes were the same, chewy and cold! The kids couldn't eat anymore so went out to play ( I will say the play area is great, the best part of the pub). When the waitress came to collect the plates she asked if everything was ok. When l told her no not really and mentioned about the veg tasting although it has been there a while she said that it shouldn't have been then disappeared! We are local to Kendal and have been for meals here numerous times in the past but this last visit has put us off so we won't be visiting again.

Party of 10 of us including two children. Service was good and quite a wide choice of food. Food was only average and we were a bit crammed in too. Great play area for the kids and general decor was great for a Kendal venue ...!

Have eaten there on several occasions, mainly on carvery days (Sunday) but also one evening from the bar menu with friends. All experiences have been positive and I would recomend it to friends, which I have done on several occasions, without fear of rebuke. In fact it is good value for money with friendly staff & the bear selection tends to Ok too if thats your bag. If I wanted to be critical the place has become a victim of it`s own success as it is always full, especially at weekends, where finding a table sometimes involves a lengthy wait. This is no doubt due to some querky decorating ideas and a lack of good local competition in this price bracket.

My wife and I went for Steak night last Tuesday....2 steaks and your wine for £1.
After a brief discussion with our server, my good lady opted for the Fillet medium rare and I ordered the Rump rare. The Fillet was cooked beautifully!
However, despite making it obvious that when I said rare i meant rare - the Rump was only just on the rare side of cremated.
I sat with it for a while anticipating someone coming over to check everything was ok, but unfortunately checking you were happy with your order was low down on the list of priorities. Yes, it was busy, but then again, it's always busy. Alas, will it remain busy if you continue to neglect the customers?
Such a shame because there are so many things about this place to admire....

I have been here a few times now and always opt for the carvery. The selection of meats are lovely and there is always plenty of vegetables to choose from. You can pile your plate as high as you like with no one giving you funny looks. The staff are always friendly and will chat away to you. Its great to go with family or friends. It is not too expensive so if you are having one of those 'i dont want to cook today' days then this wont break the bank and every one will have a full tummy and a smile on their face.
