I ended up stuck in Kendal one night and the very nice people at Kendal Hostel sorted me out with accommodation even though it was 11pm and after hours. Very homely and I would definitely use again after my stay here.

For those people who want to pay nothing and get 5 start luxury, think again this is England. This very welcoming friendly hostel in the middle of Kendel is, in my opinion, excellent. Hostels should be welcoming, friendly, fun and to some extent have a bit of a "party" happy go lucky feel to it. If your 70 years old and used to Jeeves brining you breakfast in bed with the morning paper and opening the curtains for you.... This isn't the place (unless you bring your own Jeeves). Jan, the owner/ host is one of the most lovely welcoming Hostel owners/ reps I have ever come across. I rang up on the evening we were cold wet and tired. I was advised there is no room at all... After a quick chat about our desperate situation.... 70 bike miles under our belt that day 20 to go, it's 6pm and we won't make our destination (it's very hilly around there)... Jan found "Room at the Inn". A stag do was staying, which we never saw or heard all night!!!! And a boys rugby team where on tour staying as well. They were good friendly, bunch, full of good banter and a few beers in the common room at 11-12 pm... Chatting and listen to music, with others from the hostel. Then we had to go to bed )6am start). No trouble, no (little) noise, their evening went on a little longer ;-). The kitchen has and expanse of cooking facilities and pots pans etc... Dinning room has 4 or so large solid wooden tables, makes for great interaction with others at meal times. Free tea and coffee, breakfast laid on for free.... Showers hot water, very good. Drying room. Lockable indoor bike store. This place has it all for low budget access to Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. A good friendly northern welcome and a great pint of Theakstons OP in the Shakespeare a few yards down made this a one night stop to remember. (Roger and Simon - "The Hairy Cyclists" - completing the Coast to Coast!).

Kendal Hostel is a nice Hostel with a good location, a very friedly staff which really helped us, a big kitchen, dining room, billiard table and a nice interor, the price is ok.
BUT: The beds are horrible! I never slept SO bad!

Very friendly service and no hassle booking, thank you Jan :-) Hostel was clean, beds comfortable enough and ideal for groups wanting economical beds for a night(s). Quirky building too with plenty of character in an ideal location. Highly recommended.

The staffs there helped me a lot on every aspect, e.g. they provided me towels, hairdryer and a place to cook. They treated me kindly and always with smile. I was glad that I had stayed at Kendal in my trip.
