Nice hotel, good location, great breakfast, clean room. Small touches could be improved for price, eg. we booked family room for 3 but room only had 2 towels and bathroom had no hand soap. When I asked reception, I was told housekeeping would organise for us but on return on 2nd night still not there! Also bedside lights not working, Only a small complaints but would have made this a 5* hotel if they were more organised! Good tea facilities in room but no fridge! Not suitable for wheelchair users. Car park available but nearly always full, access to small swimming pool which was great. Probably better hotels for this price.

Thanks for your review. We appreciate your comments about how to make the hotel better too; simple things that can really make the difference. We do have an overflow car park for when the main one is full as well; so ample parking which is nice for such a well-located hotel! Thanks again.

After a recent visit i feel the need to make these comments , overall Riverside Hotel is lovely clean hotel the facilities are good with the built in leisure facilities being a bonus , i have a negative and its quite big too, we have a 4 and half month old son and had a family room but the hotel is not child friendly we had room 110 but to get to 110 you either had to go down stairs which was about 8 to 10 steps to get to a lift to go to floor 1 or go up stairs which again was about 8 to 10 steps to get to floor 1 too so if you have pushchairs and loads of stuff be prepared for stairs it was a pain lifting the pushchair up and down them.

Thank you for your kind comments about our facilities and the cleanliness of the hotel. I'm sorry you did not find us to be child friendly. The hotel is set up over mezzanine levels due to its former life as a tannery and it can prove challenging at times. That said, we would have gladly helped with any and all luggage. Thanks again for the review.

The location of this hotel is superb: within walking distance of the small, unmanned train station, and then over the bridge to the town centre.

Sadly, the standard of the hotel and the room was more than disappointing. It is dark and gloomy inside. The best feature is the leisure centre, which is clearly modern. The room was not very clean (coffee stains on the wall, and was quite small really for a supposedly double room. No air conditioning of any kind, apart from open window, which let in a lot of noise from riverside bars and clubs, blasting music until midnight.

It looks as though this hotel has not had any redecoration or uplift for decades. Would be lovely if it was done up a little.

Room Tip: I have no idea how to get a good room here; other than one that faces the bridge and the town, but t...

We stopped at the Riverside Hotel for our Wedding Night & we definitely do not regret booking here. Staff were pleasant & made us welcome. We arrived at the hotel at lunch time & had a bar snack; there are a few tables outside on a balcony overlooking the river, very nice.

We then checked in earlier than normally so we could get ready for our wedding, thank you for accommodating us with this request. The room we stopped in was Kendal Castle Suite, a fantastic room. Thanks again for making our stay so special.

A change of plans meant we needed a hotel in Kendal at short notice - the Riverside offered a good price for B&B as well as access to leisure facilities (pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room). These were fine and the room was a good size with views over the River Kent, however the bed sank in the middle, causing a poor night's sleep. The bathroom was fine and shower worked well and having an iron and ironing board in the room was a bonus, however the breakfast room on the second floor was a dreadful let-down. It really felt like we had entered a residential care home and the standard of food on offer was poor overall, whilst for vegetarians was limited. If we returned again, we would do so only to avail of the leisure facilities but would take breakfast elsewhere.

Thank you for posting this review and staying with us. Thanks for your nice comments about our leisure facilities and location. I do apologise about your experience at breakfast, we will definitely learn from this though and hopefully the next time you will find it back up to standard.

I've stayed twice at this hotel this year, and would be happy to book again due to the convenient location and comfortable rooms. This first visit was with my disabled mother, and she was given a large room with a disabled bathroom. The only problem we found was that the hotel has some split-level floors, and there is not a lift to all areas, but a chair lift is available where there isn't a lift.
The rooms I stayed in were large, spotlessly clean, fitted with gleaming, modern bathrooms, and had a nice view over the river. The public areas of the hotel have a slightly dated feel, and the corridors are especially dark and dingy, although the main bar is quite nice, and has a balcony over the river.
Breakfast is limited but OK, with a self-service full English, but service can be a bit hit and miss.

The hotel is well located. The room was lovely and clean. Reception staff very helpful. BUT sleep interrupted by noisy fellow guests not helped by presence if staff member in next door room. Emergency night manager answered phone once but when I rang again as problem persisted the phone went to voicemail. Breakfast: service was poor. Staff enjoying own conversation and floor of restaurant graced by s random piece of carrot! 100% refund from very helpful duty manager who couldn't have been kinder to us as irate guests. A bad night but well resolved.

I am happy this very unfortunate incident was well resolved in the end. The staff member in question has also been dismissed. We will make sure this type of thing never happens again and I apologise again for it taking place at all.
