“Lovely Break”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Just arrived home from a two night stay at the riverside hotel. Hotel could probably do with a bit of an update in some areas but on the whole has a really nice feel to it. Staff very friendly and really helpful. We took our dogs and were made to feel very welcome. Although dogs not allowed in the restaurant they were allowed in the bar area which was very comfy and pleasant. Our room was lovely and warm with a lovely view over the River Kent. Breakfast was also very good and served in the restaurant also overlooking the river. A really enjoyable stay and will defiantly be back with or without dogs!!

Thanks for visiting us and for bringing your dogs as well. We do love dogs here and they seem to love coming to stay with us as well. Thanks for your kind words about our staff and food as well. The breakfasts do a wonderful job of starting one's day off right especially if they are hitting the fells or otherwise going for a nice, long walk! See you again soon we hope.

We have stayed at the Riverside previously, so a repeat visit says something positive about the venue! The room was warm and comfortable and without exception, we found the staff polite and very welcoming. On a quiet January evening, we did find the ambient temperature in the restaurant a little on the cool side, but otherwise, the plates and food were hot.

The breakfast buffet service is good, but when staying for several nights it would be nice to have an alternative hot plate choice to the 'traditional english'. Kippers or smoked haddock comes to mind. Overall, we enjoy staying at the Riverside and will continue to stop here when we visit this part of the Lakes.

just got back from kendal wanted to review this hotel. we stayed friday and saturday night. we had a lovely warm room with a great view over the river kent. we ate there on both nights. food was very good and always hot. staff were very friendly and helpfull. the pool was a welcome break and steam room and sauna relaxing. we didnt use the gym, but it look well used, there were always plenty in. In the town only a short walk we found lots of bars ,some played live music. one being the bootleggers. we found the poshest wetherspoons the food was cheap and cheerfull.great for a snack after walking. its a good base for exploing the lakes well worth a visit

Room Tip: all rooms face the river

Stayed for five nights with friends over Twixmas & New Year. Wife & I stayed in the Kendal Castle Suite, which we found to be excellent. All meals taken at the hotel were found to be excellent, especially on New Years Eve.
ALL staff were found to be friendly & courteous. Full Marks!! A special word for Helen, the Manager, who must have worked many hours over the period, ensuring that guests were happy & everything ran smoothly.
The leisure centre had an excellent gymnasium, sauna etc. Shame the steam room was not operational.
Shall stay again with no hesitation.

What an excellent 5-star review! Thanks so much for your 5-night stay, everything is pleased you enjoyed yourselves. It is a busy time for us, but fun as well, as all of the guests are in a festive mood. Also, the reception manager says she enjoyed her birthday drink thanks to your generosity. We will certainly look forward to welcoming you back!

Nice Hotel - Well appointed, good sized room - Nice and warm - Good fruit/cereals selection, English Breakfast good although no croissant/pastry and a very nice view if the river from the breakfast/restaurant.
Ideal for a Kendal centred break. All staff were naturally polite and courteous - happy! - very welcoming, yet professional. Good garage car parking - Looked like a nice leisure club too.

So pleased we chose The Riverside Hotel for our New Years Eve getaway. Arrived on the 30th stayed two nights on a B&B basis.
Staff are amazingly polite, smiling, friendly, nothing was too much trouble.
All rooms face the river which in full flow due to the heavy rains was an awesome sight as it rushed under the adjacent bridge.
Rooms, if ours was anything to go by are well proportioned, well lit and come with the standard kit for premium hotels e.g. Flat screen TV, plenty of storage place, safe, tea & coffee facilities an ironing board that was cleverly disguised as a draw front! Bathroom although compact was well kitted out with a well powered shower over the bath, a large mirror, heated towel rails and an ample supply of towels. Other thoughtful touches were a fan and a heater in the bottom of the wardrobe. Our room came complete with a double & single bed.
Breakfast is in the restaurant that overlooks the river & bridge. Food was in abundance, hot and tasty, we loved the bacon & the sausages in particular.

Hotel also has what looks like a well equipped and presented leisure club, regrettably we didn't get chance to make use of.

Hotel, has its own private barrier controlled, covered car park about 30 metres past the front entrance.

Town centre is five minutes walk away

Will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: I note the hotel lacks a lift but does have a stairlift for the less abled, if you have assisted nee...

Excellent review! Thanks so much for your recent stay over New Years and for the 5-star rating! I think you paint a nice picture of what people can expect when they stay here, so thanks for that as well. All of the staff are so pleased to have made your New Years memorable and really appreciate you mentioning how polite and friendly they were! Next time you visit you will have to make use of the gym (or at least the more relaxing parts of the leisure club!). Thanks again.
