“Lovely relaxing weekend”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Lovely hotel, staff very friendly, food really nicey. Perfect location being a short walk away from the town. Booked a special DBB and two night stay deal which was most certainly value for money. Would stay in the hotel again. Only change I would make would be for the shower screen to touch the bath rather than a once inch gap which resulted in the bathroom being flooded!

What a nice review. I appreciate your comments and I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are in a great spot on the River Kent from which to explore Kendal and the Lakes. I hope you think of us again when visiting the area!

The location of the hotel is excellent being about three minutes walk from the station with a similar walk into town and I liked the views over the river.

The staff on check were friendly and helpful but I entirely agree with a previous reviewer regarding the details. In my room the window didn't seem to shut properly, had a broken catch and had been stuffed with paper to keep out the draught. The room was OK generally but a bit tired looking. At breakfast they were not ready for start time and not that well organised which was a bit frustrating. The leisure facilities were pretty good but again the detail, with some minor maintenance required.

The above is meant constructively as the place has great potential with its location, and with a bit of effort and a bit of money spent on it it could easily be very good..

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night, on our way back from a holiday in Scotland on 5th October. The welcome at reception was good, but we were very disappointed with our room as it was located on the first floor close to the bar, plus it was very small for the cost of £118. The receptionist was helpful and gave us an alternative room which was quieter and larger. Initially we thought of having dinner in the bar, but overall the hotel had no atmosphere and was quite tired in appearance, so we went to a restaurant in the town. The hotel seems to lack identity, is it a hotel or a leisure facility?

In the morning breakfast was very disorganised, the staff did not check the room numbers. The selection was poor for the cost.

A week earlier on the way up to Scotland we stayed at the Premier Inn in Kendal, and paid £89.00 including a continental breakfast. The service, food and rooms were of a very high standard.

The Manager of the Riverside should visit the Premier Inn up the road, to see how a hotel should be managed. Their restaurant Table Table on the Friday night was packed both with guests from the hotel and locals.

I booked the Riverside as a treat for our journey back thinking it was more luxurious. I should have booked Premier Inn again for our journey back.

We hadn't booked and arrived early evening last friday 28th sept. First impressions were very good and the receptionist had a warm and friendly greeting. With a special deal of £98 bed and breakfast we checked into room 4 on the lower level.
This room is spacious with all the mod cons and a decent view over the river. A smallish bathroom, but nevertheless stylish, with a powerfull shower that required no manual to use.
Breakfast on the first floor was very nice, tea 'n' toast brought to the table if you required it, a buffet style hot breakfast available at your own leisure.
We never used the lounge or the pool but would definitely come back and would stay longer the next time.
Only one criticism, a noisy dog in room 2, yapping and barking stopped after I spoke to the receptionist. No big deal, and no concerns of hygene in the hotel, everywhere is clean and tidy.

Room Tip: Drive straight into the hotel car park even if you haven't booked. Its a token operated system w...

The hotel is a former mill and has been converted such that all the bedrooms look across the river Kent towards the centre of Kendal, which is a very easy walk away.

The rooms that we saw are generous in size and fairly average in their features. We arrived by bike amidst torrential rain so were very frustrated by the heating. The room radiator wasn't working and even if it had been working it was so comprehensively boxed over that drying would be limited. The bathroom towel rail was turned off and when turned on fully it leaked. The young lady on reception was helpful and pleasant but unable improve matters and promised calls to the owners made no difference (no surprise if you've read other reviews).

The staff in the bar and restaurant were all very hard working and doing a good job although it was clear that having an additional person on duty would have helped. At breakfast there was no checking of room numbers simply because there wasn't enough staff to do so.

When we checked out we were surprised to find that we'd been charged for breakfasts in addition to the ones included in our DB&B rate. Lucky that my wife checked carefully because it wasn't brought to our attention. Turns out it was for before we arrived and had been added because they thought that we looked like some people who'd been there. Even after establishing that we'd been in a B&B the day before, the charge was only reluctantly removed leaving the impression that we were still perceived to have been fiddling the bill.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. Our staff are very hard working and will appreciate your comments! I do apologise for any inconvenience caused on check out. It seems a simple error on our part is the cause of the confusion, but I am glad it was taken care of efficiently.

We stayed at the Riverside Hotel for 1 night during summer to celebrate an anniversary. Booking was very efficient and we were very kindly upgraded to a suite.
Room was very comfortable and clean, the only thing we felt was missing was a fridge in the room.
We used the pool facilities, which were also of a good standard.
Excellent location in Kendal - right on the river so excellent views and only a few minutes walk to restaurants.
Breakfast was also very pleasnat - good variety of choice etc.
Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and would definatly consider the Riverside for future visits to this area.
