“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2010

Stayed at the beginning of October for three nights. Very friendly staff and excellent room. We ate in the hotel twice and were pleased with the quality of the food. We saw one customer returning their food beause it was supposedly cold but we were impressed by the way the staff member handled the situation. He later was seen having a friendly conversation with the man. It may be a cliche but the hotel is a true hidden gem. For value for money, good wholesome food and really friendly staff this is THE place to stay.

Good location and potential for this hotel in Kendal . Slightly faded rooms and scuffed furniture. Breakfast staff very poor - avoided eye contact when entered dining room and also for two requests for coffee and tea - generally unresponsive . Just give them some simple customer service training.
Was however cheaper than the local travel lodge !

Stonecross Manor is a nice hotel that is not too far from the centre of Kendal. Plus points for the fact that they could produce soya milk without a drama, but that is more than outweighed by the fact the rooms are not very well insulated - I was woken up at midnight because someone in the room above me decided they needed to go to the toilet. During the evening and early morning I had to listen to the plumbing of various rooms around us, people walking in the rooms above us and anyone who passed in the corridor.

Comfortable and clean room, we booked the king four-poster. Staff most helpful and very friendly in most cases.
A lovely hotel sadly let down by the items eminating from the kitchen under the pretence of being fresh, local, seasonal food.
None of the game on the menu was available. Summer vegetables in october? fishcakes contained no fish..... or flavour for that matter. roast potatoes were brown in the centre, with a vinegar-like aroma. chef was unaware that diane sauce should contain mustard. or brandy, apparently.
Not surprisingly, both the chef and the duty manager both declined to sample our food.

our dinner consisted of bags of crisps at the local pub.

While I can assure our guests that we are committed to giving the highest standard of product and service at all times, unfortunately there are rare occasions when we don’t get it quite right and don’t meet our guest’s expectations. Therefore constructive criticism is always welcomed as this gives us a benchmark from which to continually improve.

However, it is also our expectation that our guests will bring a complaint to our attention in a civilized and courteous manner so that we may resolve any issues in a professional manner and to their satisfaction at the time of their stay.

Unfortunately this was not the case when Adam187064 complained to our Restaurant Manager about his food. It isn’t surprising at all that the Restaurant Manager declined to sample his food after he had picked it up off his plate with his hand and thrust it in to her face before launching it at the window of the restaurant!

Not surprisingly the feedback from the other guests dining in the restaurant at the time was that the food was of an excellent standard and the only thing that spoiled their dining experience was the unacceptable behavior of Adam187064!

While our guests have every right to expect high standards and courteous service, our staff also have the right to be treated with respect and civility.

Stayed at the Stonecross Manor for a long weekend recently as part of a Superbreaks package. We found this hotel to be very comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. We had a four poster room which was very clean, and although the furniture was not new it was acceptable, the bathroom was clean. The four poster bed was comfortable but VERY squeaky, but we did get used to it! We found the restaurant food to be of a very high standard, both dinner and the buffet breakfast. The swimming pool was dated but clean.

hotel was nice, friendly welcome from staff but room was a disappointment. we had upgraded TWICE to a 'suite' with spa bath. decent sized room with four-poster bed, but when i ran a bath the first thing that happened was the tap came off in my hand, bathroom needed a bit of refurbishment and a shower would be good! bed was the most uncomfortable bed i have slept in, sagged in the middle and squeaked and creaked very loudly every time either of us moved...not good. this was the most expensive room...not worth the extra money.

So disappointing! Once again the typical cumbrian hotel relying on being in the Lakes and charging more than its worth in comparison to the Cotswods for instance. Large hotel on edge of Kendal so good location. However there wasa wedding going on, we were given a room with beams and tiny window overlooking the A6 and a pungent smell of air freshener which meant sleeping, or rather NOT sleeping, with the window ajar and the relentless roar of the busy A6 ALL through the night!!! The ubiquitous Polyester sheets which add to the heat of the night, Cheap and nasty Tea making equipment and PG tea and Horlicks???? and tiny cheap biscuits We had been going to book a Travel lodge and quite frankly there would have been more room!!! Awful Pine furniture, terrible bed, the mattress needed throwing out! The use of a pool which looked so unappealing with its one plastic lounger with appalling [padded cushion, so cheap and nasty and whole hotel decor in depressing maroon, so dated.Really expensive, a rip off when you look at the SWan at Newby Bridge, not far away!!!! Wouldn.t go back
