“5* Welcome 6* Breakfast :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

We booked at Crosthwaite House as we were attending a family wedding at the local St Marys Church. We arrived on Friday afternoon and was greeted by Sam who took us directly to our lovely rooms. We also had my mother in law with us and they very kindly changed her from a single room to a double room, nothing wrong with the single just that she was used to a double. All the rooms are lovely, beautifully decorated with comfy beds & pillows. The only negative if you can call it that is that it might have been nice for the rooms to have had the heating put on prior to arriving as they felt a bit chilly (we are Southern reptiles so crave heat) but we put on the radiators in both rooms and they eventually warmed up, just a small suggestion thats all.
Breakfast - well nicest I think we have had, we have stayed at some 5* who could learn a thing or two from this B&B! Great choice & plenty of it to set you up for the day.
We have recommended Crosthwaite to our families as they are all keen to return to the area so will definitly stay here.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms at the front over looking fantastic views !!!

Thank you so much for leaving us a review - our first of 2013! Glad you all enjoyed your stay and the family wedding. Ahh yes good point about the radiators...you were our very first guests of the season and we must have forgotten to switch them on before you arrived! Glad you warmed up anyway, they are great when they get going :)

Hope to see you again and many thanks for recommending us. Best wishes to you all

Tiree and Sam xx

Cannot recommend more highly. A party of us stayed here for the weekend whilst attending a wedding nearby. the views were stunning, rooms very comfortable and the extra touches made it very memorable ( sipping delicious damson gin whilst sitting next to a roaring fire is just one example).Breakfast was superb cannot praise enough. A lovely place to stay in a wonderful part of the country.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front of the house have the best views, but all rooms are lovely.

In a fantastic position with beautiful views towards the Lyth Valley, Crosthwaite House is a warm and cosy guest house with classy and stylish touches everywhere. The resident lounge and dining room are wonderful places to relax and the view while tucking in to a superb aga cooked breakfast is the perfect start to any day. Be sure to try the yoghurt and toasted granola with fruit and honey,.... delicious. The full cumbrian breakfast will require a mountainous walk to return you to full fitness, but worth every mouthful,... trust me, I like my grub. Clearly high quality locally sourced ingredients that sing of all that is good for you,... well it was good for me. My room also had the same great views and was themed as Blue Violet,... a variety of local Damson that grow in abundance in the area. Try and limit youself to one glass of the Damson shots that Sam and Tiree tempt you with, or you may find climbing the stairs to your comfy bed a bit tricky!!!,... (25% proof, very tasty and a lovely touch). To top it all you can stagger the 100 yards or so to the 'Punch Bowl' along the road and enjoy some high end dining and drinking before tottering back with torch in hand (no street lights, torches by door at Guest House, clever courteous touch) and sitting by a roaring fire before retiring to bed full and happy :). This is a little gem for sure, do yourself a favour and drop by for a stay. davidhblackpool.

Room Tip: I had a double room but the single at the front if you are solo is really lovely.

I want to second my friend's review below - Crosthwaite House is simply fantastic. From the lovely little design details around the house to the delicious homecooked breakfasts and treats (we found some Tiffin in our bag on the train home - result!), to the incredibly helpful advice about walks - it really is a total gem. Sam and Tiree made us all feel so welcome and I know every one of us appreciated the hard work that must go into running the B&B.

We all agreed that it was amazing value for money and that we'd all love to return again (if they'll have us!) I wouldn't stay anywhere else in this area - you can't beat the view for a start - and you won't find a better Aga cooked fried egg :)

Thank you for a great weekend.

Aww thank you so much :) glad you all had a great weekend. We love having a big group in the house - it's so nice to see the lounge being used as it should be, with a well-tended roaring fire, board games and plenty of wine. We'll be doing just the same once the season ends! Really hope to see you all again - we can't promise that Spook will still be all kitten-like but hopefully everything else will be in order! Have a great Christmas, Sam and Tiree xxx

A lucky internet search threw up this gem of a B & B. Wonderful views, fabulous atmosphere and great service. Breakfasts were amazing, great advice on walks and local knowledge. The free cake in the hallway to take on your walks was a nice touch, and the highlight of our weekend was an afternoon spent relaxing in the cosy lounge in front of the fire in the guests lounge. This place is great value for money, and regardless of the price, is a real find. I have stayed places double the price and not enjoyed it more! We will definitely be planning a return visit.

Yippee what a treat to get some reviews so late in the season! Thank you! We haven't had so many of late, I think once people see a few on there they think there's no need to leave one, but it's always important to have up to date feedback so thank you so much for taking the time to leave us yours. We're glad you all had a good weekend, it was lovely to have you all here. I have to admit though, sometimes we do get "guest envy" and you did all look like you were doing just the kind of things we like to do when we're not working!! So glad you enjoyed your weekend in the Lakes and hope to see you again xx

I don't normally leave reviews on Tripadvisor but I was compelled to leave one here.

Crosthwaite House is such a gem I almost want to keep it a secret. However, seeing as I found out about Crosthwaite House here on tripadvisor, I had to share my experience with fellow travellers.

My family and I stayed here on a stopover while enroute to Scotland from Reading. Sam and Tiree are the most welcoming hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. My mum wanted a shower cap and Sam went out of his way to get one for her. Sam also assisted with making our restaurant reservations.

From the individually decorated rooms, to the delicious breakfasts and thoughtful gestures like home made biscuits and torches at night time for guests, it is clear that they run their B&B with love and pride. You could not get such personalised service in a large "hospitality" chain.

When we arrived, it was dark but seeing the views out of the front door the next morning took my breath away. It is quite simply, the English countryside at its best - stunning views.

We have stayed in quite a few guesthouses on this trip and my family members could not stop commenting on how beautiful Crosthwaite House was.

Our only regret is that we were not able to stay for longer. We will definitely stay here if we are back this way in the future.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. It was a real pleasure to welcome you all here - I think you almost count as our first "coach" party! It was a shame you weren't able to stay longer, but we hope you'll return and we'll be sure to have the shower caps at the ready! Hope you enjoyed Scotland and the rest of your trip. Best wishes Sam and Tiree xx

By chance we came to this lovely house and stayed for 3 nights where we were warmly welcomed. Sam and Tiree have achieved just what you are looking for in a b & b, a happy well run house that provides a spacious bedroom (Bradleys King) with stunning views and a breakfast that is very special, yes that is one of the items each day, a wonderful variation of food that would satisfy any palate. The little touches of fresh flowers around the house and bedrooms, home made biscuits in the hall for guests and the helpfulness with any requests made our stay really special. Have already mentioned it to family and friends.

Room Tip: Bradleys King is a room at the front of the house with stunning views but as this is in a quiet rura...
