We stayed here for two nights in May and loved it. We had a lovely room with a view over wonderful wonderful countryside -green lightly rolling meadows and stone walls and the birds sang and cows lowed and it was truly bliss. We were within walking distance of really lovely hillside spots (just up behind Crosthwaite House and we loved being up there looking over such amazing countryside in the quiet and peaceful surroundings. Magic.

As well -we experienced a warm welcome, really helpful directions to interesting places around about, a comfortable and well appointed bedroom and a delicious breakfast with fabulous choices. In addition, home baking, home made plum wine (Hmm mmm!) and friendly people.

Loved it. Highly recommend Crosthwaite House!

Room Tip: Rooms are up stairs. All well sitauted with various views. We liked the big room we had -it was...

Just had the best weekend at Crosthwaite House, our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer (although I'm not sure our waistlines could cope - the food is AMAZING!!) :-) Thanks to Sam, Tiree and family for making our weekend such an enjoyable one, despite the weather! Anne, Steve and Katie x

Room Tip: We stayed in the Merryweather room which has access to outside with a seating area.

We recently stayed at Crosthwaite House for four nights. The B&B is easy to find, with adequate parking on site.

We picked Crosthwaite house based upon the great TripAdvisor reviews – and we were not disappointed!

I had specifically requested the Merryweather Room, as it had direct access to a small seating area in the back garden. I thought that we may be able to enjoy the beautiful Lake District sunshine – but alas, it rained pretty much the whole time we were there! However, we did not let this spoil our experience. The room was quiet and perfectly appointed. There were lovely details like fresh flowers in the room each day and delicious homemade shortbread on arrival. There are also homemade treats left on the hall table, for the guests to help themselves to. My favourite being the triple chocolate cookies, mmmm!

The breakfasts served by Sam and Tiree were incredible! Sam was the perfect host in the dining room, bringing endless supplies of tea and coffee (not even batting an eyelid to our Green Tea and De-Caff coffee request!) and Tiree cooked up the most amazing breakfasts. There are plenty of cereals to choose from, together with the homemade granola, fruit and yoghurt concoction (which is quite rightly raved about in other reviews!). This is followed by a choice of a full Cumbrian Breakfast, or the special of the day. The special on our final day deserves it’s own special mention – Brioche French Toast, made with coconut milk and fresh vanilla, served with Damson Jam. (The Damson Jam was probably homemade as well – seriously, I think Tiree IS superwoman!).

As the other reviews have mentioned, there is a pub within two minutes walk of Crosthwaite house, called The Punchbowl. We ate in here on the first night (thank you Sam for booking the table!) It is a little on the pricey side, but the food is of very high quality. We also tried two other pubs, the Hare and Hounds (our favourite) and the Masons Arms, both only about ten minutes drive away. The food experienced in both of these, was incredible and very reasonably priced. However, I would suggest booking a table. It may well just have been because it was half term, but all three pubs were VERY busy and we struggled to get a table (especially at the Masons Arms).

All in all, we had a great stay at Crosthwaite House. Sam and Tiree were the perfect hosts and as such, we would have no hesitation in returning.

Please go and stay at Crosthwaite House – you will not regret it!

I felt compelled to write on here as didn't feel that my comments in their visitor book really encapsulated my thoughts on this amazing B and B. I visited Crosthwaite house for 2 nights with a group of friends as we were attending a wedding nearby.
WOW!
I loved it. It was just the sort of place I like to stay and much more preferable than the nearby hotel.

We, by chance, arrived together, but this didn't fluster our hosts Tiree and Sam who showed us to our rooms promptly. After running in and out of each others rooms to see who had the best it was decided that they were all great, spacious and beautifully decorated. I loved the attention to detail, fresh flowers, homemade shortbread, the chairs to relax in, plenty of facilities required for a group of girls getting ready for a wedding (big mirrors x2)

We were able to come and go as we pleased and on our return one very dark and rainy evening we came back to a roaring fire and damson gin and the company of a very cute cat!!

I didn't sleep well on the first night as there was a lot of banging which we found out in the morning came from the sash windows. However, we noticed they weren't closed tightly and so it was fine the following night.

Breakfast is amazing, the honey, yogurt granola and specials. Sam was the perfect breakfast host and Tiree! Well I just don't know how she does it, cooks, cleans brings up 2 children and still manages to remain calm and cook up the most amazing food. We all loved your homemade cakes on offer each morning
to take away with us.

I just think this is the best place I have ever stayed. A beautiful house with amazing hosts and I will definitely be returning.

Goodness me thank you for posting such a detailed and kind review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. We love having wedding parties in - always such a nice happy atmosphere :)

Sorry to hear you didn't sleep so well on the first night - I seem to recall it was pretty windy - so it's useful to know the windows might rattle on a windy night - we'll make sure we forewarn other guests - thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Bee is very pleased to be called "cute" - "fat" is a more common adjective for her ;)

And as for managing to get everything done and remain calm...well, that damson gin usually helps ;)

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

Best wishes

After a long drive from London we were delighted to finally arrive at Crosthwaite House, which is in a stunning location. We were welcomed by Sam and shown to our room. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented - crisp white towls were laid out on the bed along with homemade shortbread and there were fresh flowers on the window seat.

I had pre-ordered some drinks for our arrival and Sam swiftly brought up an ice-cold beer (for my partner) and a refreshing elderflower fizz (for me); it was just what we needed! I had also asked Tiree if she could create an Easter treat box as a surprise for my partner. I was absolutely thrilled with what Tiree had prepared - it was full to the brim with a selction of different chocolates and perfectly put together. The service during booking and pre-arrival was an aspect that we were particularly impressed with.

Breakfast is amazing; the granola and yoghurt was delicious as were the specials. Being a vegetarian, Tiree made sure that there was something on offer for me every morning, even making homemade veggie sausages. Tiree is a fantastic cook and there were always amazing smells wafting through the house...luckily for the guests, she leaves out her baking delights (biscuits and cakes) for eveyone to help themselves to!

There is also a guest lounge, which is wonderfully cosy in the evenings with comfy sofas, a roaring log fire and twinkly lights. It is the ideal place to relax after returning from dinner, especially as Sam and Tiree leave out damson gin for guests to enjoy.

Overall, we cannot recommend Crosthwaite House enough! Sam and Tiree could not have been more accommodating, always on hand to suggest walks and places to visit. It is the outstanding hospitality along with the attention to detail and little extras that make Crosthwaite House really stand out.

Room Tip: We stayed in Blue Violet, which is at the front of the house with sweeping views across the countrys...

The location is superb, glorious views and easy access from the M6. It is just down the road (literally 2 mins walk) from the Punch Bowl Inn for a wonderful supper. The room was very comfortable and the house is beautiful. We could bring our dog too, which was a bonus.
The breakfast was fab - really imaginative and great for veggies. The dining room is delightful and upon returning home we were greeted by cake! The house is full of thoughtful touches and Sam and Tiree clearly love what they do and genuinely want you to have a great time whilst staying with them. You get a great deal of comfort and care for the money and we will definitely return.
Stay here you wont regret it!

Room Tip: The Garden Suite is great if you have a dog as it has a door direct on to the back garden
