“Another top-notch meal”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

Our 3rd visit here and we were not disappointed. Excellent imaginative, tasty, visually-appealing food served by friendly, attentive staff. Extra points for registering the fact I booked us in as vegetarians and they brought the appropriate meat-free amuse bouche - something the so-called top restaurants up here have failed to do. Keep it up guys!

“Highly recommended”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

I came here with some girl friends of mine and we had very high expectations of the place, after hearing so many great reviews.
We were not let down.
Such a beautiful building with an amazing history, all of which we were happy to learn whilst there...not only that the staff were extremely friendly with good knowledge on the history, very polite but not too intrusive. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly! And all my friends enjoyed their meals too.So I highly recommend the castle diary to any and everyone!!
I definitely will be coming back.

“Why so slow”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Visited for lunch in a party of 4. Booked in advance but only another table of four eating that lunchtime.
The two staff members were charming, friendly and helpful but the service was so slow. Why? As only eight people were dining.
We all agreed that the food was OK but in no way special or memorable and in fact we considered that the prbmices charged were way too high.
The actual restaurant is in a beautiful, interesting old building and the furnishing compliments this perfectly.
I do not think we will be eating here again.

“Wonderful place - a real treat”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

The Castle Dairy is itself an amazingly interesting place, with real character and history. The staff running it do it more than justice. They're all lovely genuine people with an openness and clear love of their jobs that shines through in the way they treat their customers. We had a very special dinner there and were even taken for a guided tour of the place afterwards. Oh yes, and the food was exceptional and the wine (Chilean Sauvignon Gris, and a Rioja) lovely. The superbly light and crisp amuses bouche paved the way for beautifully fresh asparagus, perfectly cooked, various mains, all excellent, we tried all the desserts, of which none disappointed, and then had a cheese plate, nicely selected. The only slight negative was that we could not properly enjoy the fudge and chocs at the end.. But they were also really nice! This is a special place - go!

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

From the welcome to goodbye everything was perfect. The staff were smart, polite and attentive without being too intrusive. The food was wonderful and interesting combinations and contrary to previous review I thought it was well worth the money, I have paid a lot more in restaurants with a "renowned chef" for food which was not as good. I understand from the front of house manager that the reason it is sometimes difficult to get a booking is because the kitchen is so small they have to time the booking carefully so diners are not kept waiting. Please do take time to look round this lovely old building while you are there. Well done Kendal College
