Great food cooked by a chef who obviously cares about food. Not fancy, just honest and yummy. Very friendly service from staff and friendly locals too!

Been going here for years. With my dad and my step mum. Recently gone and the new owners well they have turned the place around and given it the extra touches. Great place for pub grub or just to drop in for a pint. Very welcoming and beer garden there with this nice weather

A warm and friendly local pub, which has recently had a change of management. Typical pub food but seemed to be sourced locally. good selection of real ales. We had the chicken carbonara which was tasy and plentiful, served with garlic bread. I personally had a burger off of the specials menu which was tasty and filling, but a little dry, which was served with chips. Overall, would recommend this as a stop off for dinner. Prices average at £10 -£13 for a main course, so a little dearer than your average pub, but it is in the Lake District, so you should expect to pay a premium.... or should you?

We stayed at The Punch Bowl for a few nights last month. We usually opt for B&B accomodation when on holiday, but this was the first time that we had stayed in rooms above a pub. We were a little apprehensive about being kept awake at night by 'pub noise', and also by traffic as the establishment is situated on the fast A65 road to Kendal. The Punch Bowl has just 2 rooms to let, and the one in which we stayed was a good size, very comfortable, well appointed and with a clean and perfectly servicable en-suite. The room had all the amenities of a top hotel room, along with a full hostess tray of various teas, coffee, chocolate etc - also very welcome was the slab of Kendal mint cake awaiting us on our arrival. We slept very well in the large comfortable bed, and could hear virtually nothing from the pub below us (even though the football world cup was underway, including one night featuring the England match!). The traffic on the main road was not noisy at all, and pretty well non-existant after 11pm. Breakfast was delicious - a choice of cereals and fruit followed by an enormous cooked breakfast with tasty local ingredients. We ate our evening meal here too - lovely meals at good prices and served by the ever cheerful and friendly staff. We would certainly recommend The Punch Bowl for both accomodation and food, and would definitely stay again next time we are in the beautiful Lake District.

Must have past this pub many, many times finally decided to give it a try. It certainly was worth it with a fine choice on menu and specials we tried the calamari starter (usually a bit exotic for me) but it was really nice. The main meals were the salmon with potatoes and beans and the chicken bacon in mushroom sauce with rice and these where about our best ever in a pub.The pub has a good selection of beers and many ciders it is clean well run and good staff and priced reasonable pub prices. Well worth visiting if in the area.
