We had instructions to get to the castle from our hotel which took us a very scenic route, along by the river, though a park, which had an unusual carved seat, then a walk up to the castle. We were surprised at how much is still standing and the views of Kendal and the surrounding area from the hill are well worth the hike. The grass was wet from a rain shower which made ascending the hill to the castle a bit on the slippery side and it was quite muddy in places. Well worth a visit though
