“Nice for a ruin!!”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

As long as you know that the castle is a ruin then you can have a lovely few hours there! You can climb over most of the walls and the views are great. No amenities but the ability to let your imagination run wild compensates!!

“Castle is mainly in ruins, But Views are Amazing”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Standing proud over Kendal and with history dating back to the 10th century these ruins are still something you can explore once you have climbed up the long hill [seats at various points] which surrounds it [not accessible to to the disabled unless approached from the north and you have a powerful disability scooter or a very strong helper]. there are information boards around the Castle plus others which tell you about what you can see if looking towards the hills and valleys at various points . the views on a clear day are spectacular up the valley towards Lake Windermere and Bowness or South towards Morecambe and Lancaster .At the base of the Castle hill on the east side there is a Shop, playing fields ,car park and a small childrens playground , on the West side the main of Kendal town spreads out beyond the River Kent

“Well worth the climb!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

A bit of a steep climb up from Fletcher Park past the allotments, but once you get to the top the views are amazing. I agree that there should be more signage in the town, as it is a little gem of a place. Take the kids but try to keep them under control, as there are some steep banks all around the castle, not all are fenced off. In all a good place to spend a couple of hours with a picnic and a camera.

“What a View”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Kendal Castle stands in an ideal position to allow you to see the whole of Kendal, the river Kent and the Lake District hills, so a must place to visit. The castle itself lies in ruins, but you get a clear impression of the Keep, well, entrance and curtain wall and why the castle was constructed in such a strategic position.
The walk up to the castle is exhilarating and children can easily play hide and seek, fly a kite or sketch the area from a birds eye view.
