“Thoroughly recommended!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014

Made a nostalgic visit to Kendal. I lived close by the hotel 55 years ago!

I can only endorse the previous excellent reviews of the hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The pub food and local beers in Alexanders were excellent as was the breakfast in the restaurant. The hotel is nicely situated with good views and ample car parking.
The rooms in the newer part were clean and comfortable but perhaps a little undersized. I would have probably liked something a bit bigger for a longer stay but fine for one night.

All together, I can thoroughly recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in the Kendal area.

Room Tip: If you prefer a room with a bath tub rather than a shower, ask for one when you book.

Many thanks for your very kind words. There is nothing quite like a trip back down memory lane! Of course the hotel didn't exist all those years ago but the exterior of the main building has remained almost unchanged to this day.

We have many different room types and with 99 bedrooms to choose from we have something for everybody. By booking directly with our friendly Reception team you can be sure we will match your preferences to the most suitable room and at the same time guarantee the best possible rates!

We hope to see you again

We have just returned after 5 nights and had a wonderful time . The hotel is beautiful but what really stands out is the wonderful hard working team , always happy polite and nothing is too much trouble , even Ben the deputy manager standing in the rain to reserve a disabled parking space while I collected my husband. The room was spotless and cleaned every day and when the weather was unexpectedly hot fans where delivered to our rooms.
We tried the pub bar and restaurant for dining and all where fantastic . We will definitely be returning .

Room Tip: We chose a balcony room, it was a little smaller but beautiful to sit out in the sunshine

Very comfortable beds and some good cooking in an otherwise unremarkable hotel. Set in a prominent position, the old part of the hotel has rooms that overlook the pleasant garden area with nice views of kendal castle ruins and hills. The newer part of the hotel has a number of rooms which are reasonably comfortable but as the block is built into the hillside a number of rooms have no view and are very dark, which is very depressing. The bathroom has fixed overhead shower and bath. The water from the shower varied between scaldingly hot and rather cold and was difficult to control. The water in the hand washbasin had very little water pressure and took time to fill up. The room had free wifi, television and generous helpings of biscuits each day for the tea and coffee making facility. Clean linen/towels only provided on demand! Room has small desk and was just about big enough for 2 to move around; bathroom was small. The hotel is reasonably clean and very well run. The bar and general area are o.k. but were very hot when we were there as the weather was very warm and there is little ventilation/conditioning. The dining room extended by a 'green house' without opening windows got very hot unless the packet (and draughty) air conditioners were on. The best feature was the consistent good meals.
Would recommend but try to get room at the front (more expensive).

Room Tip: Front rooms with balcony are nicest. A lot of rooms are dark with no view - some almost underground...

Many thanks for sharing such a comprehensive review. It was pleasing to note that you found the bed comfortable as we have recently invested in Egyptian Cotton linen and matress ‘toppers’ in every bedroom. We are very lucky to have such a talented team of chefs in the kitchen and I am delighted that you particularly enjoyed this element of your stay.

Much of our business comes from recommendations so it is great to read that you are happy to recommend us based upon your experience.

Stayed overnight to break a long journey. Very nice hotel with very nice and professional people. Lovely views. Restaurant lived up to it's AA rosettes.

Fast wifi - just select the network and you are off - no messy logging on etc. - one of the few hotel that gets how guests want their internet access to be!

About 15 min nice walk into Kendall

Big, all inclusive hot and cold breakfast buffet - one small niggle - you get charged if you order a capuccino at breakfast as this has to come from the kitchen - or some cock and bull along those lines. Hmmmmm! Maybe one of the budget airlines advised them on that one? As it happened it did not appear on our bill - not sure if this is because we checked out soon after and it had not filtered through or if the restaurant and front desk were working on different rules.

Other than that we would stay again

Room Tip: We had 131 which is a big big family room as is 135.

Many thanks for your review and positive comments regarding the food, wifi and service.

It is standard practice to charge a supplement for speciality coffee as there are additional costs involved and it reduces demand for a product we would not be able to provide for up to 200 breakfast diners without compromising other elements of the service. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again in the future.

i stayed at this hotel for two nights in a double room.

I chose this hotel to stay at as I was visiting the Lake District area on holiday.

Arriving at the hotel was a little tricky as the postcode will direct the SatNav to the leisure club part if of the hotel which is along the road from the actual reception area. After arriving at the leisure club, a helpful member of staff pointed us in the right direction. There were three separate on-site car parking areas.

The room was spacious with large windows and the bed provided us with a good nights sleep. The hotel has a dining area within however there is also a pub located in the
hotel grounds which provide food and drink throughout the day.The pub food was tasty and reasonable priced. Portion sizes were on the generous side.

There was a wide selection available for breakfast each morning and although the hotel was suffering from some computer malfunction, this did not prevent the staff from being helpful when needed.

Overall, a good experience and I checked out with a pleasant memory of my stay.

Would I visit the Castle Green Hotel again? Yes.

Thank you for ‘PassingThrough’ the Castle Green during May!!!

There are two driveways for the hotel. One for the Conference Centre/Pulse Leisure Club with the other being for the main hotel where the larger car parks are located. We encourage guests checking in to drive upto the main hotel entrance (going behind Alexanders Pub) to unload luggage before parking on one of the three carparks.

We aim to offer a memorable experience so its great to read that we succeeded with this!

Our Son & Daughter in Law held their wedding here. The wedding itself was fabulous, the service held outside in the beautiful grounds and the reception itself in the upper suite with a large private terrace.

The food and service were first class and the day went off without a hitch. There is even a separate pub in the grounds for bar snacks to make a change if you are staying for a few nights.

Only two negative comments, the wedding couple were given the wrong room on arrival despite it all been pre booked with the wedding arranger, added a bit of stress but was quickly resolved and well handled by the staff.

Our room whilst having a great view was a bit on the small side.

Would definitely use the hotel again if in the area.

Thank you for sharing such positive comments regarding your son’s big day. We are very lucky to have 12 acres of beautiful grounds for such occasions and I’m sure the photographer will have captured some very special pictures!

I was pleased to note that the misunderstanding regarding room numbers was quickly resolved. We have four Executive rooms which are all used as bridal suites and the sales team now have photographs of each room so we can ensure that this mix up doesn’t happen again in the future. The last thing we want is for any Bride & Groom to be disappointed with their allocated room.

We hope that you will decide to visit us again in the future.
