this is a very busy hotel with large gardens just outside kendal.it is trying for 4 star status which reflects on the prices but you get quality here.the reception staff were very friendly and booked us in quickly.we were given a room suitable for disabled people and it was massive and had a large sparkling bathroom with thick white fluffy towels.there is a leisure centre on the ground floor with a warm pool, steam room and a gym which all looked new as it had been refurbished recently.the leisure centre is accessed by a lift.it did not seem very busy in the centre for how large the hotel is.the greenhouse restaurant was expensive but we ate in there for breakfast.for our meals we used the pub alexanders which is in the grounds of the hotel.they have a main menu and a specials board and the prices are reasonable.we could not say anything bad about the hotel.towels for the pool and gym are provided by the leisure centre if you are resident.

Went to Castle Green for a Hen weekend , the hotels was booked months before our stay, When we arrived to book into our room for three people with three single beds we were told they did not have this room available and made no effort whatsoever to rectify the problem they just chose to blame our party for not booking the rooms correctly and their solution was that one of us should share a double bed in another room with a person we hardly knew when we said we were not happy with this the manager shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know what else to suggest, in the end we had to have a fold out bed in a double room and we had to force them to let us do this. The rooms were very small and the clenliness was a little questionable The girls arriving the previous night found that one of the beds had someone's dried vomit in it,
The food and drink were incredibly overpriced (2 x 175ml glasses of wine and half a larger was just under £11) the only really positive thing i found was the breakfast which was really nice.

In short if you are looking for good customer service, clean surroundings and value for money this is not the place for you.

We stayed in Castle Green for 4 nights at the beginning of July. What struck me initially was how beautiful the surroundings are. There are brilliant views across the hills from the hotel, and i'd recommend asking for a garden view room. The hotel itself was very nice and clean, although the check in area felt a little bit cramped, and probably wasn't the best use of space. The room had everything you'd need, although again the space could've been better occupied. Despite the room being very clean, we were very dissapointed with the bed. Apart from it being very small (about a queen size, or a little smaller), the pillows were terrible, and collapsed completely when we put our heads down. They felt like they were sand bags, and provided little comfort, which resulted in a good few restless sleeps unfortunately. Aside from these issues, the hotels has a lot going for it. The pool and gym area are excellent, and were very well maintained. My girlfriend also enjoyed the green rooms spa in the complex. The staff in Castle Green were extremely pleasant, and very helpful with any queries we had. I would definitely stay there again, and hopefully the bed would be better.

Does what it says on the tin really: a good four star hotel with excellent staff, pretty grounds, small but good pool/gym, nice bar including a pub in the grounds (we ate there both nights and it was really good vfm and quality).

Surprised at the size of our room: really quite big....got the impression we got lucky as the main corridor seems to indicate bog standard quite small rooms but we were further towards the back annex where seem to be more roomy
Nearly all the staff were highly professional (ie there was the odd kid from town who hasnt quite been trained enough BUT thats unfair because the overall feel is very high quality).
One thing though: all the photos show the attractive old facade: that is only a very small part of it: the rest is very modern!

Really like the place.
Clean, friendly staff, excellent food, the internet is free.

Pool was a little on the cool side - normally its fine. Must admit that I do like warm pools though!

Restaurant food quality is usually excellent. I was a little disappointed with my dinner but my wifes was up to normal standard. Think I was a little disappointed as the food is normally so good - had a new menu.

Breakfast excellent.

We have visited Kendal often and this was our first stay at the Castle Green and will be our one and only visit. We were extremely disappointed with the room...very small with no character, the images of the hotel led us to believe we would be staying at a character hotel, this was not the case, we were in fact at the modern end of the complex which was similar to a travel lodge/holiday Inn. The bathroom was tiny and grubby, the bedroom was clean but had very little storage and a tiny bed which banged against the wall whenever we moved! We are early risers and thank goodness we were, on the Saturday morning as we were leaving breakfast at 9am there was a queue in the lobby which had all been allocated numbers from the waitress and they were waiting for tables to become available so they could get their breakfasts!! The best part of our stay here was when i visited the Spa, I had a great experience and it was well priced. The staff at the leisure complex and reception were very friendly and helpful. Overall...great staff and location but sadly let down by extremely poor bedrooms and bathrooms. We have stayed at 2 other local hotels in kendal and we will visit both these again in our future visits to Kendal.

The Castle Green in Kendal is a great hotel with a lovely setting and more importantly lovely comfortable and plush rooms. Service was good and the breakfast superb. The little pub that is part of the hotel serves up some fantastic food and more importantly very generous portions. I would definately recommend this to fellow travellers to Kendal.
