We live midway between Kendal and Windermere and appreciate the quality (products & service) of the Booths supermarkets. I have eaten in the Artisan cafe on the ground level of the Kendal Booths store maybe 20 times since it opened a number of years ago. I expect high quality ingredients and preparation and am very rarely disappointed in these respects at the Artisan cafe with a mixture of original menu options and classics, using fresh ingredients that are nicely prepared. The reason we don't use Artisan more frequently is that service levels are at best average and mostly disappointing and poor. There appears to be a culture of service mediocrity amongst many staff and therefore one can only assume the cafe leadership team. This is very surprising given the care taken to successfully run the supermarket upstairs, the quality of the cafe environment (good picture exhibition from Queen Katherine School at present) and the quality of the food itself. Today's visit was typical of our experience. My advice is to sit near the welcome counter where it is lighter, has better airflow and you are less likely to be ignored by the staff.
