we've just returned from our 3 night stay at the glen..it was recommended by a friend and did not dissapoint...we were welcomed by Alan, who showed us to our room (family room)..the room itself was possibly one of the cleanest rooms and bathroom that we've ever stayed in, there was a great view of the Helme from our big bay window, which made a nice change from the hussle of town life..there were two possible wifi connections, which caused no trouble and a large DVD collection should you wish to just chillout in your room, the breakfast..cooked up by Chris was awesome...I had the full english and my girlfriend was happily catered for with veggy sausages, its worth going just for the breakfast, the home-made bread was a big hit with the missus!
theres information packs in the room of local businesses and things to do...chris and alan have also printed off a 'full day' excursion or 'half day' if the need takes, we did the half day..which included a hike up to a waterfall, this is definitely recommended, you only pay for the parking, or just simply take a stomp up the Helme which is right on their doorstep, there's a pub called the Station Inn, literally a minutes walk up the road, which serve great food...we will definitely return, and recommend to anyone thinking of taking a trip to the lake district, home from home, great service and a proper breakfast!..thanks guys
Hayley and scott

Cycling from Barrow in Furness to Whitby this was our first stop. We arrived late but were warmly greeted by the owner and the garage was open to store our bikes. Immaculately clean with good size rooms, hot showers and comfy beds. An excellent full English breakfast in the morning set us up for a tough hilly ride to Kirkby Stephen.
Would reccomend this guest house to all, cyclist, walkers and tourists.

We recently stayed at The Glen, for two nights, on our first visit to the Lake District. The greeting we received from the owners was very friendly and helpful and the accommodation itself was 5 star! Our room was large and immaculately clean, with all the added extras you could possibly need. Breakfast was lovely with a great choice of cooked breakfasts plus cereals, fruit and homemade breads and jams. The location of The Glen is also perfect to explore the surrounding area, which is stunning. We are looking forward to our next visit.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on our way to the south of England and one on the way back. We had a really friendly welcome from both Alan and Chris. The rooms we had on each occasion were spacious with a great range of toiletries. The breakfasts were well cooked and tasty with plenty of choice of cereals, fruit etc. The hot tub in the garden was very welcome as we were there during the heatwave. We took a walk on the Helm, a hill at the back of the Glen. It was a lovely day and the views across the Lake District and Morecombe Bay were spectacular. We ate at the Station Inn, which is a very short walk away and enjoyed our meal.
We will certainly return if we are in this area again and will recommend it to friends

'We stopped at The Glen whilst on a cycling holiday going from coast to coast. It was raining when we arrived and our wet clothes were taken to be dried. My hubby had had an accident and needed to go to the hospital and the owner very kindly drove him there whilst I had a complementary sherry. The breakfast the next day was lovely with lots of choice and also home baked bread. Warm clean room and house with friendly owners.'

'When we arrived we were greeted with a very warm welcome from Alan the owner. The room we had was very clean, modern and comfortable with a large jacuzzi en-suite bathroom.Breakfast was included and was not only cooked to your liking but also to perfection. In addition there was a huge range of cereals, yoghurt and fruits. The Glen is situated approx 2 miles from Kendal and 9 miles from Windermere easily accessible by a short walk down the hill to the train station and the bus stop.We hope to return to the Glen when we next visit the area. The owners go that extra mile to make sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Thanks a million Alan and Chris for your fantastic hospitality
