This is a classic pub with classic pub grub. The food is very good and served in generous portions. Surprisingly, especially for a pub that was about to host a "good beer" festival, they didn't have many locally produced real ales available. Good value for money.

Fabulous pub/restaurant. Great food, great value and wonderful atmosphere. Excellent garden venue for sunny afternoons with friends. Very good service and nothing too much trouble for a well rehearsed staff. The manager certainly has a handle on customer care and satisfaction!!

We got lost on the way, which was strange because if they just mentioned it is opposite Low Sizergh Barn people could follow the signposts. The building is nice - I believe the Ntional Trust owns it. Nicely done out as a number of dining rooms. We were upstairs and it lacked a little atmosphere mainly because the lighting was too bright - bring on some candles after dark... There are pub type thngs advertised but it seems more like a restuarant.
The service was really good, and the place was pretty busy. The menu is fairly comprehensive, with an additional list of specials and everythng we had was fine, some of it just lacked a little finesse. The mussels were chewy (overcooked I imagine) and the sweet chilli sauce overpowered them, for example. Veg overcooked and the potatoes boulangier more greasy than creamy. It is definitly better than the average pub, even in this foodie area, and we would go back as it was good value.

We visited on a Friday night, having not booked and were lucky enough to arrive as a table of 4 were leaving. After a swift drink at the bar we were shown to a very comfortable table for the four of us. I had a lovely succulent pork loin steak while my wife was presented with an enormous plate of fish and chips! Our friends both had the vegetarian lasagne, served with crusty bread and salad, and managed a scoop of English Lakes Ice cream for pudding. Unfortunately for my wife and I, the portions had done for us both, and we had to look on with envy. The staff were pleasant, attentive and friendly all evening, and I shall definitely be returning!

7 pm on a Saturday evening with downstairs bar and dining rooms packed to the hilt. Fortunately, my friend had booked a table. Warmly greeted by friendly and efficient staff. Extensive wine list with prices from £15 - £60 a bottle. We both had some very succulent Morecambe Bay potted shrimps for starters, followed by home made steak pie [large chunks of beef] and local lamb steak accompanied by hand cut chips and selection of fresh vegs. Huge portions overall, served on large plates, resulted in us having to decline a pudding.
It is lovely to see that the Strickland Arms has been sympathetically decorated in keeping with a building of its genre - it oozes charm and character throughout! Will definitely be dining here again!
