Owner description: Hill Top was Beatrix Potter's most beloved place, packed full of her favourite things and left just as she wanted it for visitors to enjoy. You will see why she loved it so much and used it and the surrounding countryside as inspiration for many of her famous children's tales. Your visit helps the National Trust continue her work to look after the Lake District.

Love the garden and it was fantastic to see the books come to life.
Avoid the expensive hotel next door as the tea and cake was poor, best walk to the cafe down the lane opposite.

Beatrix potters house, a definite must do. House is just as she has left it. You have to get there early as it gets really busy. The whole village is beautiful and can be seen in her illustrations in her books

After many trips to the Lake District we made it to Beatrix Potter Hill Top farmhouse, it was wonderful, after reading Samuel Whiskers to my son who is now 23! as it was his favorite bedtime story to see the house in its original character my daughter who is 19 truly appreciated the experience, yes the car-park was busy but we did not have to wait long for a space, lovely little shop with ideal gifts, the garden was idilic just like the pictures in the books, and to be told the history of the house as we went around was just wonderful, it brought the books to life, what a totally enjoyable experience, not sure small children would appreciate it as much though as the house was quite dark inside (to protect it) My son now has to read the stories to his daughter and take her for a visit when she is old enough to appreciate it. thank you would highly recommend, didn't stop smiling thinking of Anna-Maria and saw where John Joiner sawed a plank to rescue Tom Kitten
