Owner description: Hill Top was Beatrix Potter's most beloved place, packed full of her favourite things and left just as she wanted it for visitors to enjoy. You will see why she loved it so much and used it and the surrounding countryside as inspiration for many of her famous children's tales. Your visit helps the National Trust continue her work to look after the Lake District.

This small 2 story farmhouse is what I had imagined Potter's home to be, that is, simple home amidst beautiful fields with sheep and rabbits.
I liked the fact that the house is dim inside as it must have been when she lived there. Ot is pleasant sittings next to the garden
We visited Lake Winderemere for a cruise later that day and had 2 fine nights at Laurel Cottages.

Hill Top is a charming example of an historic English small farmstead, with the special bonus of having been the setting for the Beatrix Potter books. The guides lovingly show you details from the books, and the furniture and gardens are quite special.

Delightful to visit. It feels like Beatrix has just left the room and will be back any moment. The drive to Hill Top is beautiful as well. Don't be satisfied with imitations go and see the real thing

A walk through this beautifully preserved cottage and garden was a must for us because it brought back many fond memories of the times we spent reading Beatrix Potter stories to our children, many years ago.
To view the rooms, note furniture and other personal items that found their way in to her stories was wonderful. We had one of our daughters with us, so that made our visit even more relevant.
The staff were helpful, answering questions and directing us to certain display items.
Be aware that you have to purchase a timed-ticket for entry, obviously to limit the number of visitors to the cottage. Better to get there early as there is a daily quota and early sell-outs occur.
Tom Kitten, Jemima Puddle-Duck et al live on!!!
