“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

We spent over 2 hours here just going around the house taking in all the exhibits and facts about John Ruskin - very interesting throughout and a man really ahead of his time in so many ways. The gardens are extensive with great walks throughout. Really good value for money too.

“must see”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

Having read a bit round John Ruskin prior to visit was delighted to see where he spent time and ultimately died. Complex character but got a feel of the man seeing round the property and a quick ferry to Coniston to double an interest.

“Tranquil picturesque house and gardens”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

John Ruskin's former home is one of the most interesting and beautiful places I have ever been to. Set on a hillside just outside Coniston, Brantwood overlooks the lake, and nestles in its fascinating terraced gardens designed by the man himself. John Ruskin came here to heal his tortured mind but stayed till the end of his life having created a home and garden of some significance. His story is well worth hearing and his home and garden will not fail to give pleasure to those who seek to spend a pleasant afternoon in the tranquil surroundings of Brantwood. There is a tearoom, but I think it's a little expensive, even for lake district prices.
