“A lovely stay”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

We stayed at the Sun Inn for two days (Fri & Sat) while competing in a charity swim of Lake Coniston. On arrival our rooms were ready and check in was painless. We were given a permit to park on the local pay and display (2 mins walk away).
The rooms are all very individual and we all enjoyed the quirkiness of the rooms being at different levels and all different in decoration. The furnishings to the room are amazing and not your run of the mill hotel bedding.

On looking at the evening menu we thought it was a little bit steep, but having eaten i would have no qualms in paying the price again. The food was good quality and plentiful.

Myself, sister and partner had to be up at 5.30am on the Saturday morning due to the swim, and the hotel left cereal, bread to toast and condiments so we could get a bit of something to eat before our 5.25 mile swim of Coniston.

The staff were friendly and very accommodating while we were trying to find a table for eleven people to eat an evening meal and had set a breakfast table to accommodate us all.

I would certainly return to this pub, which is set in a beautiful village.

Room Tip: Room 1,2,4,5 & 6 were all great.

Would highly recommend this hotel, the food was amazing. We had a birthday party at this hotel which was very well catered for. Nothing was a trouble to the staff or Manager (Alex). We had a fabulous night here. Other parts of the hotel appeared to be buzzing, great atmosphere.

Room Tip: Food Great.

I have been to Pooley bridge 5 times this yeah and with my tent giving up the ghost in May myself and husband and my two small dogs were made more than welcome each time we stayed in the pub and John the landlord spoilt my dogs with giving them a sausage treat for there breakfast and on the second time we stayed I forgot the dog leads and John came to my rescue in lending me there spare dogs leads. The food is all cooked fresh and more than tasty and filling and the menu suits all tastes.A very highly recommended pub to go for just great food and atmosphere and friendly staff and if your staying there you won't be disappointed as all rooms are lovely and beds are so comfey, I wanted to steel it for home but i coudn't get it in my suit case LOL. Total 10/10 ++

We had a wonderful 3 day stay at the Sun. Our room was nicely decorated with good facilities and reflects the age of the building with a fabulous timber staircase to all floors. The bar had a great selection of local ales and some really good wines. The food was wonderful with an excellent choice for both meat eaters and vegetarians with the option of eating the restaurant, bar or outside area. The staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming and we would both recommend a stay here to anyone. Parking is free in the main town car park only a minute from the pub itself. We will certainly visit again.

We have a caravan in Pooley Bridge, and we visited this pub for a meal a few weeks ago. The pub was spotlessly clean as always, the Jennings beer was fantastic, as always but most importantly the food was faultless. I had the pie and my other half had the gammon, and its safe to say its the best meal out that we've ever had. The food was cooked to perfection and the staff were very polite and friendly. Out of the three pubs in the village, The Sun is in a league of its own... I can't recommend it enough. Its worth travelling up there just to visit and have a meal... It was that good.
