Stayed here 3 years ago and again just last week. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Service excellent, food amazing, what else can you ask for...! Friendly atmosphere, clean beautiful room, fantastic beers and local produce! In the morning good breakfast, you'll be greeted by manager and extremely football obsessive dog- Sasha! We'll be back again soon, can not wait already! Hopefully Manager( Alex) will let us borrow Sasha for a walk in this beautiful area!

Stopped here on our way to Portsmouth as we had read the reviews.
Started well with a good welcome from the young man at the bar. Carried our case to the room even though he was busy.
The room was small as expected and clean enough, recently refurbished.
When arrived at the table in the evening the waitress totally ignored us, no hello, no menu, it was if we weren't there. Maybe they were understaffed. After 15 mins we walked out and had a lovely meal at the Queens Head, where the restaurant was full but the waitress made up and extra table for us.
Time for bed, but not to sleep. The bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever encountered, worn out springs, soft and lumpy. The management need to check it out.
The breakfast was good, but overall a disappointment.

Room Tip: Check out the bed before unpacking

We live the Sun Inn as a pub. We often visit the pub but this was the first time we'd stayed over.

The room was in the attic and was very small. You hit your head when bending over. It was really clean and had a nice bathroom but was just too cramped. We'd stayed at nearby Walker Ground Manor last time and for an extra £10 had a room literally 3 times the size.

We ate in the bar which was great food and good value. Breakfast was also really good.

We'd definitely come back to the Sun for food and drinks but may chose a larger room next time

A lovely old town in between 2 lakes. 400 year old inn with beams in the ceiling, very clean rooms and a VERY accommodating crew. Peaceful and quiet village in the middle of Lakes District. Close to the big towns, roman ruins, and attractions.

Stayed two nights in a wonderful twin room under the eaves. The manager, Alex, was gracious and fun and even helped carry up the bags - a first! The room was convenient, clean and had enough electric plugs for two older ladies from the US touring England. The food was good too, prepared by a chef who once served in my old home town of Chicago. What made this an outstanding experience was the staff - Alex, Vita and the very friendly chef (I'm sorry I've forgotten your name). Their hospitality was outstanding; they offered advice and even helped secure reservations for our next stop. It also didn't hurt that the Inn is good value and in a perfect spot to launch exploration of the Lake District.

We have just returned from a Two night stay.
We know the area quite well and decided to just drive on up and see what availability was around the area.
I did some research on Trip Advisor before going and came across the Ship Inn and liked what i saw. so this was our first stop . Well i can honestly say it was the Best Decision we made.
We were greeted warmly by a Member of staff, shown a room which we accepted.
We can honestly say that all staff were very polite and friendly.
The room was spacious and clean, and well laid out.
Breakfast was 10/10 as were the Evening Meals we had from the Bar.
We needed time out to relax and enjoy the area, and this is exactly what we got.
So once again A very Big Thank you to you all for a Very enjoyable stay. we will Definately be back in the not to distant future.

I was here at the beginning of June and had Sunday lunch here...

Now I'm not complaining over price as I got a large diet coke, bottle of magners and two turkey Sunday lunches for £26 but the standard of the food was a little style over substance! It looked great but in fact it was a little below average!

The turkey was very watery and had little taste, the gravy was runny and their was little of it! The mash was pretty bland and the stuffing was a touch dry!

The vegetables away from mash were boiled carrots and parsnips... No greens whatsoever?!

I feel pretty bad reviewing such a nice pub like this but to be brutally honest it's one of the worst Sunday lunches I've had!

The bar itself though is great, good selection of drinks, a nice beer garden, fantastic staff and it looks pretty clean, just a poor experience I think!

I didnt bother complaining, I rarely do although I probably should've!
