This pub/hotel was recommended to myself for taking my elderly mother to for an early evening meal. I luckily booked a table as the venue was very busy but with a lovely buzzy atmosphere yet relaxing!

We had a fabulous meal which was delightfully tasty and the service provided by our two waitresses was excellent. They were very attentive and approachable and worked VERY hard during the time we were there. I would certainly dine here again if in the area

ON our 25 day driving trip through England, this is one of two places which we hadn't planned on even visiting, but for a long storied reason, we ended up staying here for one night. We reserved it about 5 hours before arriving and luckily they had a twin room available.

We arrived in the evening, and the sky was lavender, with rooks flying about in enormous numbers, and walked from the carpark to the hotel and were met outside by other guests who were having drinks at the cafe tables in front of the Hotel. A great start. We walked inside and were immediately transformed back into another time. That romantic notion that Americans have about England was completely met in this beautiful village and atmospheric hotel and pub.

We went upstairs to our smallish but spotless room and dropped our luggage, and collapsed on the beds. We were exhausted(it had been a long and sad day). Unpacked only our night clothes, and went downstairs to join in with the others. What a terrific night it turned out to be. The pub serves the best local brews(I am not generally a beer drinker), and the people(guests and patrons) were all very very kind and thoughtful.

We slept soundly in the comfy beds as all was quiet at night. Peaceful.

The bathroom was roomy and modern, and breakfast was one of our favorites on our long journey. Cumbrian sausage just simply tastes better than all the others, and the juice was fresh, the eggs were local, the porridge was creamy, etc. All a great start to a physical day of fell walking.

Hawkshead itself had so much history living with it. Beatrix Potter lived there, and Wordsworth went to school in this village.

Sadly we had to leave for our reserved accommodations(which were also terrific, by the way) up into the north Lake District, but our short experience at the Queens Head and Hawkshead were truly memorable and I would definitely go back again and stay for a longer period of time the next time I'm in the Lake District.

Lovely little hotel and pub in the heart of the Lake District. The suite we had was large and comfortable and the restaurant serves some of the best food we have tasted.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel, not over the bar/restaurant

Just arrived back after a 3 night stay in the height of the Great British summer.

Stayed in the four poster room (3) at the front of the hotel and whilst it needs modernising it was extremely clean and comfortable. The mrs loved sitting in the window seat overlooking the street watching the world go by during our chill out times.

The restaurant within the hotel was nothing short of fantastic. On checking in and glancing at the dining area we would have never have thought that it would be transformed into such an intimate, pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. With tables apparently at a premium, and as advised by an earlier reviewer, its definately wise to book a table. We choose to dine at the later sitting to enable us to take our time and enjoy our evening. The menu was great, the food delicious and certainly worth every penny.

The parking fee's in and around the lakes are expensive but the Queens give you a permit for the duration of your stay. A £3 charge is put on your bill at the end of your stay and as most hotels offer free parking (granted, they have the space) we found it slightly strange that this was billed as opposed to hidden in the price of the room, a very small negative which can easily be resolved.

From check-in to departure the staff were superb and in particualr two of the restaurant staff who were friendly, efficient, and polite. If you're reading this, thank you so much! We were made to feel extremely welcome and valued.

The staff and food alone would definately see us booking again.

Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We are a couple in our 30’s that enjoy walking, eating and good beer and the Queens Head had access to all three. We stayed for a weekend in one of the rooms at the back of the hotel; it was quiet, clean and generally quite lovely. The breakfasts were very good with a great range of food. We also ate in the restaurant one night and although it was a little pricey the food was of very good standard. Hawkeshead itself is also perfectly located with easy access (by car) to all other parts of the lakes. Although Hawkeshead is smaller than places such as Ambleside it does have four pubs which all serve a great range of real ales and I have to admit I found it a far pleasanter place to stay than Ambleside or Windermere.

1st visit here while staying in Lake District ,Booked for a family celebration and the service and food were excellent .From the original inquiry months before the event, the staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful and on the evening of the meal we found the same warm welcome. Absoloutely no complaints about the meal-1st class. We had a range of selections from the menu and everyone was thoroughly satisfied with their choice. Have been to Hawkeshead before, now we know the best place to eat a good meal!

Room Tip: didn't use accomodation

My Husband and I stayed in the Brown Cow Cottage and found it to be very spacious, clean and very good value for money, warm and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is outstanding. Hawkshead is a beautiful village and we thoroughly enjoy our stay! We stayed last September and we will certainly be returning to the Queens Head. We would thoroughly recommend a stay there!
