The walks are amazing - lots of different walks to chose from to cover everyones ability. We have always had a fabulous time and been lucky with the weather. The scenery is amazing. The play area is fab even for teens. You to make sure that you have plenty of fluids and food as there is nothing to purchase until you return to the beginning.

Good morning out with family, took the 1km Gruffalo trail to kill a bit of time whilst waiting to take the Segways out at Go Ape. Trail is ok bit underwhelmed as kids are now teens. Segways at GoApe were great fun, £35 ea for about an hour or so trail In woods. Good tuition by staff, big queue at cafe as just one poor chap serving dozens of customers but looked ok. Can't understand the gripes in other reviews about car parking. Paid in shop by giving car reg, cost £4.50 for about 3 hours or so ? Forest is about 8 miles down narrow country lanes so be careful on the corners...

We have been here meant times before...pre kids it was great to do big walks here, now we have two kids under ten we come here for the forest walk and then a trip to the most amazing park! The car park is reasonably priced and the rest is free. Staff are helpful and there are streams for kids/dogs to play in. Go ape looks great but we haven't tried that as yet. We look forward to cycling here, plenty of cycle paths for all abilities. The drive to the forest can be an eye opener! But once there it is simply an absolutely beautiful place to be - peaceful, scenic and relaxing.

The road from Hawkshead is quite narrow in places and care should be taken with approaching vehicles.
We could only undertake the Gruffolo walk due to young grandson being with us. The walk was good but the Gruffolo contribution very poor with just seemingly cardboard cut outs placed along the walkway.
The opportunities for out door activities appears to be tremendous.

We had a fab few hours in the forest which worked put quite expensive for parking. We started with a walk around the Gruffalo trail which was ok; characters from the book were simply printed onto plastic boards and tied to the trees. The adults weren't overly impressed but the 2 year old loved it. The path was pushchair friendly so made the walk more enjoyable. Two of the party hired bikes and enjoyed their cycle. They said the paths were well maintained and easy to follow routes. The play area was fab. Lots of variety including climbing, jumping and slides. There were plenty of picnic tables including some that were covered. Our only issue was the cafe. The queue was absolutely enormous and incredibly slow moving. The reason for this appeared to be a staff who were disorganised and unsure of what their roles were. At one point, all three members of staff were trying to serve one customer who subsequently had triple orders! We would definitely go back but will be taking a picnic!
