I am a regular to Hawkshead and The Kings is my favourite pub of the four in the town. When the tourists and day trippers go home, it becomes a local's pub. It also serves the cheapest beer in the village.

It serves 4 guest ales, with Hawkshead brewery (which is now in Staveley) being a regular. The food is excellent.

Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff, menu was a bit limited but the food ranged from gammon to venison. The food came fairly quickly and we were very impressed by the quality. Well cooked meat and quality ingredients, I had the wild boar sausages; 3 large sausages with mustard mash and lots of gravy. We finished off with a cheese board that did the 4 of us! Food was fairly expensive and my only observation is that the meals should come with vegetables rather than having to order these as a side order. Other than that, thoroughly recommended.

the pub was a little empty as it was raining, eight of went for tea and had the meal deal from the specials board (two courses for£13.95) the staff were freindly and very helpful. the food accordingly and was cooked to perfection (7 had sirloin steak and 1 had salmon) we asked to wait for our desert as the portions were quite big, the staff were very attentive and said it was fine, couldnt ask for anything better.

We drank here during a short break and the atmosphere is good. They had quiz night on and entertainment across our short break. The drinks were good (me wine and husband beer). He said the beer was better than in pubs around about. We didnt eat here as we had been told that the Queens nearby was better (we did eat at the Queens and it was really nice). Dont let this put you off trying the food though as lots of people were eating there and I didnt see any grumpy faces. This pub is right in centre of Hawkshead and good to visit more than once.
