Had a little trip to Hawkshead while on holiday in the Lake District and just fancied a cup of tea and slice of cake. We didn't need to look any further when we caught a glimpse of the gigantic cakes in the window!
We managed to get a table and had a slice of chocolate cake and a slice of raspberry cream sponge, both we're amazing but the cream sponge was so good we popped in the next day just to get a slice to take away! Lovely! Price of the huge slices was very reasonable too.

Visited this Cafe as we had seen it on trip advisor.
Really pleasant staff.
We had soup which was very tasty and the open seafood sandwich that was fantastic.
We also had coffee and the fabulous cakes.
Needed a doggy bag for the rest of the cake we couldn't finish which the staff were happy to supply.
Really recommended on a cold rainy day.

We weren't looking to stop for cake but it looked so delicious we did ,home made and delicious !
The cafe is small but the welcome is delightful ,the coffee was good and the price very reasonable for the quality (and size ) of the portions .

Yum, yum, yum, yum..... oh dear I feel sick! Perhaps the full English breakfast 2 hours before was not a good idea! An empty stomach is a much better idea. Really the photograph does not do justice to the size of this slice.Think side of a house. We will return when next in Hawkshead.

Called in here when cycling through Hawkshead on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I'd only got as far as opening the door, to be greeted with a stern "Haven't you got anything you can change into?" Well, no, but I'm perfectly dry under my coat! "Oh, well, in that case, I'm sorry but..."

A cafe - in the Lake District, for heaven's sake! - refusing to serve anyone who is wet? I'm amazed they're still in business.

I cannot understand the point of this review (if you can call it a review). You state above in your own words you had cycled to hawkshead on a rainy Sunday afternoon.Yes this is right a really bad rainy day. You had black cycling cloths on (you and your partner) which were not only wet through but full of mud.You were asked did you have anything you could change into, as at the cafe all the chairs are cushioned seating to which you replied NO. As a small business we have many cyclist and walkers throughout the season and accommodate all, but how do we let yourselves sit down wet through muddied up, what about the next customer. Maybe you should do what our seasoned cyclist and walkers have suggested after reading your comments bring a change of bottoms or a plastic bag ..
